HP Presario V2401cl Notebook Questions & Answers
Tried hooking the computer to an external monitor.
Hi there. When you connect an external display, your laptop clones your desktop to the external display, including resolution settings. First you need to check what resolution settings the plasma can display. If your laptop is set to a resolution that the external monitor can't display, then you will lose the display once the resolution settings are loaded. You can change the laptop resolution in your Display Settings.
If you don't know what settings the external monitor can display, just open your Display Settings and set your laptop resolution to 1024x768. Almost all new monitor/tv's can display it. Connect your external display, and see what happens. If it works, but the resolution doesn't look right, then just move the resolution along one more, until you find one you're comfortable with.
N.B. Some monitors/tv's "jump" resolutions. i.e. the monitor can display 1024x768, 1300x768, but not 1280x800.
Another thing to remember is that if you are running Windows Vista, you may need to check that the Windows Mobility Center recognises the external display that you are trying to use. You can find Windows Mobility Center by clicking Control Panel, then Mobile PC. It should now be listed on the screen.
Let me know how it goes, and if it works, please rate.

Power issues with laptop
As per your description, I understand that the issue is because of Overheating of the Notebook or the Cooling Fans are not functioning properly.
First of all, keep your arm at the bottom of the Notebook and check if you can feel any heat than normal and make sure that the cooling fans of the Notebook are spinning and are clean from dust. Also see that the Cooling Fan Vents are free from dust. Clean the above mentionad parts using a Air Blower or Vaccum Cleaner if possible.
There will be settings in BIOS by default where the computer will be turned off if the temperature of the CPU reached or exceeded a certain level to prevent further damage to the computer or processor and motherboard if the Processor over heats and burns.
Since you are able to start the Notebook without any errors or Bluescreens, all the other hardware components should be fine.
Hope this helps...

You may have a virus, malware, adware, a browser hijacker, or pups (potentially unwanted programs). A. If your computer will boot and you can operate it ok... Download and install Malwarebytes and Superantispyware (Note: If you can\'t do the download on your machine, do it on a friend\'s, put them on a thumb drive, and install them from it). Then scan your computer with each program, and quarantine anything found. B. If your computer won\'t boot, or can\'t operate properly after boot... Tap F8 when you are booting, select "Safe Mode With Networking". Download and install Malwarebytes and Superantispyware (Note: If you can\'t do the download on your machine, do it on a friend\'s, put them on a thumb drive, and install them from it). Then scan your computer with each program, and quarantine anything found. C. If this process finds malware, to keep stuff like that from coming back, I recommend you get the paid version of Malwarebytes.Good luckG

If the fan making a smooth spin, but the noise is too loud, then it means the fan is trying to dissipate the heat. Probably the air inlet and or the air outlet (also the fan itself) is dirty (or clogged) and you need to clean it up using a canned air.
You may need to open the case/body if the dust become a dust ball (and you need a tweezer and qtip to pickup the dust ball and clean up the fan blades).
Increase virtual memory
no proberly not,you should never do so.i understand you wan't to add moore memory (RAM)windows 32x can only handle max 4 GB.windows 64x 8-12 GB.invest in some new memory (RAM) that's best.
