It means the fuser section (the Hot Part) has g,one bad to clear the code you will need to get into the tech mode. "Function", "3", Orignal Size "Legal" that order once there go to F9 Look for Fuser Reset then turn off the machine wait 10 seconds turn on if it comes back the fuser needs replacing or worse thre main board!

E3-40 is the copy density sensor on the drum unit. Toner is probably dropping from the drum unit onto it. You have to remove the drum to access the sensor.

Service mode F9/ram initialize/all job clear

Press and hold down energy saver button and function button together then power on the machine. keep on holding the two buttons the machine will once show screen calibration marker then again show the calibration markers now touch the shown marker it will go to a new place keep on touching the final marker will be at center of screen . after touching it the calibration completes

function/original sixe ledger/#3 buttons in the sequence very quickly without releasing the buttons until all 3 are pressed. need 2 hands to do this. then service mode #7/maintenance counters/then web set to 239500.

the best thing that u do first is to clean the fuser unit, esp. the thermostat located there. then you may go to service mode, (function+orig.size+3), F9, look for ram initialize, then look for LBP FUSER RESET.
it will reset all e4 machine error.

did you check and clean primary transfer or change corona wire,optics , drum unit, or check the roller make program adjustment

Check paper exit sensor# 1 or 2 to see if they have become disconnected

GO to service mode, function original size and 3 go f9, then
ram initialize and lbp reset and hopefully that will reset it....
