Compaq MP2800 Microportable Projector sps Projector Lamp - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

This could be one of 2 things. It could have a bad color wheel or there is a setting problem in the unit. If the video mode is not set correctly like NTS or PAL it can give a black and white image.

The other could be your color wheel has failed. Did the unit make any noises before the color went out?

Some times the color wheels will make noises when the age before they crack or break from the heat.

I believen you can pull the lamp out and with the lamp out try and power the unit up, look into the little hole the lamp shines into and see the color wheel spinning. when you first plug it in and unplug it the wheel should spin and you should see the colors change. DONT TOUCH THE COLOR WHEEL they are fragile and can break easy. Some get more brittle over time from the heat of the lamp.

resolution changes. if you hit auto image, that should correct it.

This error is to do with the light tube - 4 retangular mirror's just after the colour wheel. The dark band is where the bonding for the mirror's is failing, the spring clip holding the assembely inplace pushes the top mirror down slightly causing the dark band as mentioned.

To fix this use a high temp glass glue and very careful clean, reposition the mirror's (in the correct position). Allow to cure fully then re-assemble the unit.

I have only have had to do this twice the 1st time using a sub standard adhesive and dark return a few weeks later. The 2nd I did some reseach and have a quailty glass glue. The X2 has been fine for many years now with no sign of the band re showing.

ps. if you are rubbish at doing stuff like this - just don't try, it's fiddly and requires a good understand of what you are trying to achieve. A perfect retangular tube with parrallel sides...!!!

I had the same problem!  The problem is dust on the color wheel.  At side of the color wheel is a wire connector attached wit one small screw,  with a cottom tip clean the small lens  and surface, that's all. Put the connector and screw  and it will OK!!

it might be a problem with overheating, have you ever cleaned the projector? there might be alot of dust blocking the airflow.

If that doesnt help let me know.

Have you tried cleaning ther bulb housing and fan area with a soft brush and vacuum?

If the projector is not getting a source it might go on standby maybe check where you plug it in.
Projectors require quite a bit of power and should be on a single loop/outlet not hooked up to a powerbar with more things on it.

This maybe a problem with the software inside the tower. You will need to check some settings as well. please follow instruction below.
1. Click on START
2. Type REGEDIT on the search bar on START Menu on the Run Box
3. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
4. Expand SYSTEM
5. Expand CurrentControlSet
6. Expand Control
7. Expand Class
8. Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
9. Look for the Upper Filters / right click on it / click on Delete
10. Look for the Lower Filters / right click on it / click on Delete
11. Restart PC
12. Try you CD / DVD ROM
If nothing happens, click on this link then click on RUN and follow the steps, then restart computer and try to run a disc again, if still nothing happens, theres a possibility that the problem is with the hardware side or the media player that you are you using...

Try reseating the ink cartridge. Maybe, the cartridge is not seated properly.

Here are the simple steps:

1. Lift the control panel by holding the panel along the top edge.
2. Pull the control panel forward.
3. Lift the ink cartridge access door. for better access, stow the document input tray away. the carriage will move to the center.
4. Then, try reseating the cartridge. Hold the ink cartridge by the black
areas or colored top only.
