If the recharageable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

My main problem is that I don't have one, unfortunately. It looks like a very nice unit, but I'm kinda strapped for cash, and can't afford it. I suppose if my answer is accepted, that would help.

If you Zen player is frozen or not responding You can follow these steps to go to recovery mode:

Detach your player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player. If the player stops responding, you can reset the player. To reset the player, gently insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch. Press and hold the Play button while powering on your player. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.

It will display the following options:

Clean Up:
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library. Does not affect music files themselves.

Format (All):
It erases all content! Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.

Reload OS/ Firmware:
Erases your player's firmware. DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.

Reboot:
Reboots the device.

You can follow any of these steps or all of them one by one to restore your device.
Hope this helps..

Try plugging it in and going to the Device Manager to see if it shows up as "unknown device" or something. If so, disable/uninstall it, restart, and try it again.

What you might want to try is to connect the USB cable to the device and an open port on your PC and let it charge and see if after it has a full charge if you can power it on without having any other problem. Or if after it has a full charge if it is recognized by your PC as a connected device. If it has a full charge and recognized by your PC you should be able to use it without having any problem. Another solution is to download the updated firmware software, run the firmware update check your device and see if the display shows the Creative Labs logo if so you are in the clear and it should work without any other action needing to be taken on your behalf

Hi.

please do the following steps:
Do an hard reset by pushing and holding a paperclip into the reset hole, located at the bottom of the unit.

If that does not work, hold down the power switch to the left, and at the same time , while holding the switch, put a paperclip into the reset hole and then pull out the paperclip, and keep holding the Switch. When the Creative logo appears, release the power switch.

You will get access to the hidden menu. Chose reset, or restart the firmware update using the hidden menu options.
