Acer aspire t 160 wont boot after ram installation
When purchasing RAM make sure ram modules are of the same brand any typeIE corsair ddr3 low density or hynix high density ddr2 you should always try to keep the same brand and type of ram reason being the compatibility issueand always place the largest ram module closest the CPU central processing unitalso check the ram sockets for dust and make sure the ram modules are securely seated you can do this by pressing the levers at either end of the ram sockets.
If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the
Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules.
First you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system.
You should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility before making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible. You could put the old ram back in your computer and see if it starts then you will know if its the ram.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Go to www.crutial.com and run the system checker, this will give you information on the way your memory is configured, the amount of memory you can install as well as the type you need.
There is no need for you to set anything in the BIOS, as the system will automatically detect the new memory.
I hope this helps.
Good luck and have a pleasent day.
Power to computer comes on
Make sure that there is no memory card, flash disk or any other external storage disk attached to the machine and try booting again.Adjust the monitor display settings. if this does not solve it, then you have to reinstall the operating system. Boot from an an operating system compact disk.
Need new motherboard for Aspire T160. Where can I
Hello Martyn - Acer does not sell replacement motherboards. You would have to send your PC to Acer (no longer under warranty) for them to replace the motherboard, charging you for the hardware and the labor which, frankly, would be more than the worth of the whole computer with everything in it.
Fortunately your computer can use any Micro-ATX (a standard "size") motherboard. My suggestion would be that you take your machine to a local PC shop (if such is relatively local) and tell them you would like a new motherboard in you PC and want to keep your old CPU, hard drive, CD/DVD, memory, and any other parts that can be reused which should be everything (except if the dead motherboard damaged other parts like the CPU or memory.) If you wanted to it wouldn't be that more expensive to replace it with a newer faster motherboard but then you would have to replace the CPU and memory also.
I'd estimate (in the US) that it would cost about $150-$200 to replace the original motherboard...it never hurts to shop around.
Good Luck and Thanks for using Fix Ya.

My son asked me to get the reboot CD
If you are able to boot into Windows, you can create a system recovery CD using the settings that your T160 had when it was shipped to you. Alternatively, you may just to reinstall all the applications and drivers your system was shipped with. You can find Acer's instructions on how to perform these tasks at the bottom of page 24 (page 15) of the following document:
http://bit.ly/ftB7M2 (Create factory default image CD)
If you are unable to boot into Windows, you will have to contact Acer about getting a recovery CD. They may be able to provide you one for free if you are under warranty, otherwise you will have to pay.

Your problem is the memory . YOu have to put off the pc and remove the memory card in the slot. Then clean the silver pins in your memory with a rubber eraser. Put it back and see if the BIOS will be prompted on the screen , if not you have to replace the memory.
Turns on but no boot
I had this happen sometimes after a windows update/reboot.
If the computer is on, hold down the power button until it cuts off.
Unplug the power cord. Wait for a couple of minutes.
Plug the cord back in, and turn on system.
When you turn on the computer you hear the fan
if you feel there may be a problem with the HD try running a surface scan and repair on the drive, viruses and malware could also be involved, if all else fails, and there are no impotent files you may lose, than fdisk, format, and reinstall the opporating system to your drive, sometimes this is the best and easiest way to solve this problem
ACER T160 FREEZES
I have an aspiteM3610 withVistaWith almost the same problem from input
freezes for about 8 minutes to a total machine freeze and a hang to be
followed by a switch-off (by me).
I don't have a real solution but to explore the problem you may take a
look at the installed RAM: wilth all of the updates of Windows and
services running even 1 GB may be to cramped. So may consider to add
two strips of 1 GB. Furthermore I have slowly found out that the USB
system has a problem: I can't start up with a logitech wireless mouse
and /or an USB drive or al large USB stick in the machine and after
connecting them after startup they will sometimes give rise to rather
strange problems in the system even bitmap errors in the MFT of a NTFS
partition. If this happens too you may try to boot with a PS/s keyboard
and even no mouse at first and try it out.
Good luck!
