HP Pavilion 515n (DC471A#ABA) PC Desktop Questions & Answers
How do I increase FSB past its factory preset in my HP Pavilion 515n pc?
Some people, when their computer reaches the point that it can't run the programs it once used to, decide to toss their machine and invest in a new one. Others squeak out some extra life by overclocking their processors. While this is ideally done with hardware, for pre-built HP computers you will have to use a software option. With this minor exception, the process is still a breeze. Download and install CPU overclocking software, such as ClockGen, SetFSB or SysTool (see Below).
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=189 http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/SetFSB.shtml http://www.techpowerup.com/systool/ While all these programs more or less work the same, for this guide we will be working with ClockGen. Boot the CPU overclocking software. Do not be alarmed if your computer momentarily slows down, as the software is reading your CPU's clock speeds. Click "PLL Control" or the equivalent in your overclocking software. This will show you several sliders for your front-side bus (FSB) and, in many cases, your PCI cards. Adjust the FSB slider. Be sure to do this slowly, as the processor will likely fail if there is a sudden speed change. For best results, use the arrows to slowly adjust the settings by one-to-two megahertz at a time. Click "Apply" frequently to set the speeds. Hope this helps.

Loud fan noise
have one very similar, they only have a fan in
the power supply, and a small, small fan on the CPU. If it's the fan in
the power supply making the noise, some people would say replace the
whole unit, some would say replace the fan. I would replace the fan,
but if you don't want to take the risk of getting electrocuted, that's
probably a great idea. A power supply can be found somewhat cheaply,
but one that fits those cases might not be quite as easy.
HP pavilion 515n runs real slow
Yes, you can add more - But if you have a fragmented HDD, it won't help much. Before you spend money on physical memory, I would do a disk defrag, check to make sure your HDD is not getting too full, and check your virtual memory. On xp you can get to this by right clicking MY COMPUTER, click properties, Performance, Paging file. XP has a problem during install of not setting this right. Change it to "system managed size", apply & ok, reboot your computer. If this doesn't help, and your HDD is not too full, stop some of the things that are loading up on startup.
Can this HP access internet wirelessly?
you need to add a wireless card inside your computer or else you can stick in an external USB wireless in one of your USB slots. then you will be good to go.
Hp is making a loud noise after being on for awhile
It is most likely the processor fan which is getting busted or dirty.
Open the machine after having it unplugged and blow it all dut in machine and from both fans. Clean the fans with a soft brush and see if that works. Otherwise you will have to replace it. But normally it is just dirt
Removing virtual drive
It depends what program you used to add it in the first place. Open the software and look for settings, or just uninstall it.

The airplane mode button is stuck on orange although my computer say's airplane mode off
old PCs do that, for many reasons. but no PC told at all just HP.
40 years of PCs ,10000 + models nobody can guess ever.
but I do have the answer, in pure generic form.
did you buy the PC like that used and bad Wifi. ?
- the wifi card is missing, as was super common 10+ years ago.
- someone put in the wrong card, not from HP list
- HP blacklists (bios blocks) none HP cards (wifi)
- the card needs a driver to work if not it is dead or 1/2 dead.
- the PC needs 1 more driver to make the wifi buttons all work , all buttons related, if not they are dead or act odd.
- The OS is infected, no OS told at all, not one clue nor if upgraded the OS, and not vast drivers are wrong or missing, (classic)
Im sure this this is not the free w10 upgrade, if it was that too kills drivers dead, for sure HP told you this unstated PC will not run W10 and has zero support from HP, on w10 AS YOUR SUPPORT PAGE WILL DISCLOSE TO YOU AT HP.COM
