Computer won't power up unless I jump pin 16 and

a real answer. not bs above. you proved the PSU is ok, why go there? the why this works is the chip called South bridge. does all this (this is how (also) the windows start button and shut off works, called SOFT POWER OFF) the button on the front panel is a N.O SPST switch. normally open momentary and shorts a specific and non world standard pin on that mobo to ground, (adjacent pin) this sends a logic zero state (0v) to the South bridge then it turns on a transistor on that mobo and that grounds pin 16 to PSU, and PSU magcially turns on., end theory101.... the problem can be ; the switch is plugged in wrong. or bad. HP uses vast numbers of MOBO in PCs so have all different pinouts. and hard super hard to trace and learn that.! all mine are keyed, and the mobo is silk-screened painted, Front panel. the other possible is that the PSU is not putting out standby power on pin 9, with PSU plugged into the wall pin 9 must be at 5vdc. if not the South Bridge will be dead. as will the power switch it supports http://www.pcdied.com/power.html The South bridge runs power. managment. the 945P must have PSU standby power and the switch most reach its power on pin, or there will be no working switch ever. The PC can also force the PSU off if one of the onboard power regulators are reading wrong (say too high) The power management is complex, but not that one pin,.below. Power management, wake on LAN, sleep, hibernate. and more. but all we care is the power switch but if the above features work then the switch is bad, and why I mention that. my PC can even self turn on at 6am if I want, (a bios features) self power on... now the list of simple..tests,etc. 1: PSU pin 9 must be 5vdc at all times, wall plug aC connected. and if read of PSU has a switch, set to logic 1 , (1/0 labled) means on. 2: the correct working switch in front panel, 2b< that switch must be on the correct jack on the mobo and not off one pin or some other ERROR. there. 3:the PSU good ... some are not, (complex reasons) skip i will. 4: the MOBO most be good, (and not overheated) Switch. will the PSU turn on if dvd/cd drive and HDD drive cables pulled.? even pull RAM. sticks? it will beep like mad but will turn on. and be dead but turns on. like that. well most do. 5: jump the pin below, does that turn on the PC? as it must! A DT PC 12 years old now. m7480n this PC is now retired at HP means zero support. no service book but it lacked the power jack info in most cases DATA: (first know what is there, the mobo is clearly labeled. look? this is the best search I did for you,at HP real, yours
  • Manufacturer: Asus

ive owned many P5 in my life, not now but am an ASUS guy. but this old board we can do research on it, I like HP and HP likes ASUS as do I. both. knowing this fact we see Asus Leonite P5LP-LE User Manual then we find the book on it next like this, (took me 1second ) page 5 shows layout https://www.manualslib.com/download/449087/Asus-Leonite-P5lp-Le.html bottom right shows, (F_panel) Bingo, on jack. page 25 covers that jack so pull the jack there pull plug from jack then jump pin gnd /pwr pins with screw driver tip. if PC turns on the switch was bad or plugged in wrong, if not the PSU is dead, Standby power is dead, pin 9 p25-0kaf4dlf4nbtfyx5ejcudwbi-5-0.jpg Asus books always show all this, but never HP for some odd reason. (details like this) good luck

I am getting Disk

looks like the software installed on your hard drive has been damaged

if you have recovery disk, try booting from it and try to repair windows. if you have valuable data on the hard drive, have a technician connect the drive to another working computer to copy the contents.

the technician may have to reformat and reinstall the window operating system and drivers for your computer.

hope the above helps. good luck.

No sound from headphones. Speakers

Please clarify, Where is the Headphones connected? Front or back? if you tried it on the Front port without success, Plug in the speaker jack to the port where you did connect the Headphone and verify it's working or not. You can also try the headphone on the port where the speaker is connected.

Awaiting.

How to make my pc

1 . Clean up your desktop icons. Having too many icons on your desktop slows down your computer's operational speed. Consider cleaning them up to keep only what you need on your desktop.

2 . Remove unnecessary start-up entries. These are programs that start when you turn on your computer, and it takes time for them to load. Programs such as lime wire, Msn, and quick time helper are common culprits.

3 . Run a virus-scan. If you do not have any virus protection software, Then you can download it from the internet

4 . Un install any programs you don't use in Control Panel. Trial software and other junk clogs up your computer and makes it run slowly.

5 . Do a registry scan and repair. Using cleaner of your choice, clean and repair the Windows registry to make your computer run smoother.

6 . Conduct an ad-ware scan. Ad-ware is similar to spy ware and is just as bad. You can also download it from the internet

8 . Upgrade your computer's hardware. The most common upgrade is an upgrade in RAM, but you can also upgrade your graphics card or processor to make your computer run faster.

9 . Make sure all your hardware drivers are up to date. Do this by visiting the manufacturer's websites to download the latest versions.

10 . Turn off unnecessary visual effects such as Vista's Aero effect, all of which slow down your system. Skinning programs such as Windows Blinds also slow down your system.

11 . If all else fails, re-format your computer and install windows again to start off will a clean system with no junk.

12 . De fragment your hard-drives. When your hard drive is reading your files, a little head drops onto to a spinning disk to read the information to load a file. If the file is split up between multiple parts of the hard drive, it takes longer to open each file. Thus, De fragmenting frequently will make every-day activity quicker on your computer.

Hope the above information will help you.
Thanks.

I have a 2005 Hewlett

Here is something to try that might fix you up.
Dry boot is a way to reset HP laptops. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Here is how to do it.
Disconnect the power cord, remove the battery, press and hold the power button for about a minute. Then re-insert the battery and power cord and try to turn it back on again.
If you are still having the same issue, remove the battery but leave the power cord and try to turn it on. Oh yeah, disconnect any USB devices and a monitor (if you connected a monitor to your laptop), make sure there is no disc in the drive either.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

After a while running it

I had the same issue with my desktop HP Pavilion. It turned out to be a faulty power connection in the actual power cable right where it connected to the powersupply in the back of the computer. I had the power supply go out on the same computer - new one is about $30 for a replacement - installation is extra. To determine if it's the power cable you can power up and wiggle the cable right at the back where it plugs in. If it drops off immediately then you'll need a new cable. To determine if the power supply is faulty unplug the unit, take the cover off and measure a spare white connector coming off the power supply. You should have +- 5 volts and +-12. If you don't have within 10% of these voltages then replace the power supply

Won't boot, has a steady beep sound.

Hi,
Beep codes denote that there may be problem with your RAM modules inside your computer Cabinet. Remove the cabinet, remove the RAM modules from the slot, clean the dust particles present and replace the RAM back to the slot properly and try restarting your system. Try 5 continuous attempts like this and at any one your system may come alive. The Beep codes may vary among different motherboard vendors. So refer to your system motherboard manual and there the interpretation for different kinds of beep code will be provided.

I hope this is helpful and solves your problem,
Thanks
