My speakers on the monitor isnt working

Make sure your speakers are plugged in, turned on, and properly connected to the computer. You've probably checked this, but it's amazing how little problems like this (or the computer's sound being muted) manage to confound people.
Plug the speakers in to another computer, if possible. If the speakers work with the other computer, proceed to the next step. If they don't, you've probably got a problem within the speakers themselves.
Check your sound drivers:
  • Open your start menu (right-click on the "Start" button and choose "Explore"), and find the "My Computer" icon. Right-click on it and choose "Properties" from the submenu. Click on the "Hardware" tab and then the "Device Manager" button.
  • Expand the "Sounds, video, and game controllers" heading to find your sound card. The name will depend on what sound card is installed on your PC. It will most likely have a name containing "audio." It should look something similar to the example above. You'll know immediately if there is a major driver error because an exclamation point (!) will show over the card's icon.
  • Double-click on the name of the sound card to open a new window. In the new properties window click on the "Drivers" tab. If there is no "Drivers" tab then you chose the wrong sound device. Go back and try again. On the "Drivers" tab, click the "Driver Update" button. Follow the Wizard's onscreen instructions to update your driver. You can also contact the manufacturer of your PC for the most recent audio drivers. They can usually be found online.
  • If you already have the most recent driver, click the "Uninstall Driver" button. Then restart your computer. When you restart your computer, the driver should reinstall automatically. If it does not, install it manually with software (or a download) from the manufacturer.
  • Check the sound card itself. Properly shut down your PC and then disconnect all cables on the back of your PC, including the power cable. Open up the CPU, making sure to touch a grounded metal object (a doorknob or metal desk will work, for example) before opening up the case. This will discharge any static electricity you have built up, which could damage your computer
  • Locate the audio plug on the back of your PC. The sound card should be in the corresponding location on the inside of the PC. Remove the sound card and put it back in the microsoft website has detailed directions for installing a sound card; to remove one, simply do the reverse. Once you have the sound card back in, reattach the cables you unplugged earlier and boot your PC.
    • If your sound card is built into the motherboard do not try to remove it. Your entire mother board will be needed to be replaced if the sound card is the problem. Another option is to buy a separate PCI sound card and then install it. Ads by Google'; for(i = 0; i '+ '' + google_ads[i].line1 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line2 + ' ' + google_ads[i].line3 + '

    • If you're having problems with speakers emitting a static or crackling noise, it may be caused by a high speed internet box. Moving the box away from the speakers or the speakers away from the box may help if this is the case.
    • In some cases, you will be receiving high amounts of static from the "CD Player" and / or "Line in" channels. This can be corrected simply by lowering the volume or muting these channels in Volume control (Start>All programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume control)

When powered on - the fans spin, but no display on

Suggest you have a bad power supply. Weak voltage power rail. Enough power to light lights, and spin fans, but not enough to turn the Processor on.

    1) ALL of the light require less than 1 Watt of power.

    2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts

    3) A typical Processor uses anywhere from 51 to 125 Watts. Depends on what Processor it is.

If this is an HP Pavilion Media Center a1410n Desktop PC, it comes with an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor. (2.4GHz)

(The 64 stands for 64bit. It is a 64bit processor. The 3800+ is AMD's model number. The maximum frequency rate is 2.4GigaHertz)

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00607954&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1841799

The AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor when operating at maximum capability, can use 89 Watts.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_64_microprocessors

What made the Power Supply fail?
    1) Computer is dirty inside, as well as the power supply.
The cooling components for a power supply are Heatsink's inside, and the external fan.

When the cooling components get clogged up with gunk, the cooling capacity drops tremendously.
    Heat = Wasted Energy

The power supply tries to keep up with the call for power, and eventually components inside the power supply fail.

    2) Pre-built computer manufacturer's tend to put low quality power supply's in their computers. Saves them money.

Do you wish to know how to test your power supply? Do you have a multimeter, or a power supply tester?

One example of a power supply tester,

Also, do you wish to know how to replace your power supply?

I am trying to instal a second disk drive but the

From your problem, it sounds like you are installing an IDE drive. If so, then both drives are most likely set to master. You want your original drive as master and the new drive as a slave.

If your system supports Cable Select, this is the best option and both drive should be set to CS. The drive connected to the last drive on the ribbon cable is the master and the other drive is the slave.

If you are unsure, just set the second drive to slave.

Most drives have a label on top that shows you the jumper settings. The jumper on 99% of IDE drives is located between the power connector and the ribbon connector. If in doubt, all the manufacturers show jumper settings for drives on their web site for each particular model.
