Dvd/cd tray same problem as others posted here
My experience (with the R280) MAY have some relevance. It turns out that, should you turn the printer power on WHILE the output tray is in the upper (DVD/CD) position, you get an undocumented pattern of error lights, error message, and no ability to print. The cure (for the R280) is: just move the tray to the lower position and leave it there long enough for the printer to complete its power-up cycle and initialization, after which the green POWER light will be solidly on. Then you can shift the tray to the upper position for DVDs, or go ahead and print on paper where it is. Epson "technical" "support" people all deny that this is the way it works, and they want me to return the printer for replacement. I have confirmed the behavior on TWO different R280s. They also deny that their CD-Label software scatters "CDLabel.alb" files whenever you load a photograph as background, but that's another issue, and fortunately non-fatal.
Paper jams
hey, try this:
- Turn off the printer.
- Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
- Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
- Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
- If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
- If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by
holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the
paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling
out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
- If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do
this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any
obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
- Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or
ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the
printer back on.
- If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
- see alternative if the problem is still not solved.
alternative :
Load
a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume
button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the
printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
Screen says "service required" Printer will only turn on, that's it.
Its Epson design. It means it already reach it maximum reliable printing service. But you can extend its service using Epson resetter. Its a third party software utility program. It will reset its counter to zero count again. Counter resetting is on the printer itself not in the ink cartridge.

Usually this indicates that there's a problem with one of the following:
- Cartridges are incorrectly seated or incompatible with the printer
- Cartridge chips are soiled, damaged or otherwise unreadable by the printer
- The printhead carriage is unable to travel along the printer width properly due to a foreign object or some other obsctruction
Best thing to do is try removing the cartridges, clean the cartridges gently with a cotton bud or similar, then replace them.. And to check the movement of the printhead to see if there are any indications of halted movement, etc...
If all else fails you will need to contact an Epson service engineer to try and get some help.
Best of luck and hope this resolves your issue.

Possible printhead or driver issue.
Are you using Adobe photoshop? Please try to print also using a different application to isolate the issue.
Make sure that you are using correct epson cartridges.
Please print a nozzle check pattern. If you see gaps, missing colors or missing lines on the pattern, clean the printhead using the driver.
If the nozzle check pattern printed out successfully, please trash and re-install the drivers. The driver is available on epson.com
Dark Prints
Does it have options, like normal draft, normal, best? Then use normal draft or draft option it will lessen ink usage. I think it is set to best setting.
Step by Step how to use resetter software
I try it to the best I can, here it goes; printer is connected and power up. Best to be done under xp I still never tried this in vista.
1. Run ssc service utility program. Pop up box will appear. Select Configuration, under Printer model select your model. say stylus r340,then close the box.
2. Program will be reduce to the notification area beside time clock on right bottom of your screen. right click its icon choose protection counter, then hit reset protection counter, wait for sometime.
3. Reboot your CPU. This is the trick for this, sometimes not rebooting the cpu will not totally reset the printer chip.
If this doesn't work repeat the procedure.
Printer won't print email or confirmation notes
I've ran into a similar problem at a client. They have about 20 printers in the work environment, a few of them are bigger copier/scanner/faxes that prompt for a department code upon printing. A few of the workstations were having problems printing emails to one of these multifunction printers to where the computer acted like everything printed fine, but there was no prompt for the department code so the email did not print. I could go into Word/Excel/Acrobat and it would prompt for a department code and everything would print fine, but Outlook never prompted for this code.
My fix was to just simply reinstall the problem printer and the workstation started prompting for department codes again upon printing from outlook.
