Turn on your printer.

Lift the printer unit, and position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise the ink cartridge lid.

Remove the old ink cartridge.

Dispose of the old cartridge properly.

If you are installing a new ink cartridge, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of the ink cartridge.

Insert the new ink cartridge.

Snap the lid closed.

Lift the printer unit, and hold the scanner support up while lowering the printer unit until it is completely closed.

maybe nozzle need to be clean
go to control panel / printer/ right click, properties (this is where you can test page, clean and align)

Some keyboards offer short cuts that can vary, but it would still have to be configured before it would work. I think I know why you have asked this question, and where your trying to go with this so let me cut to the chase and see if I can help you get your scanner to work. OK?

When you buy an all in one machine (which is a printer that has other options like fax or scan) and connect it to your pc, you can control the features from both sources. That means that you can push the button to scan on the printer to get it to work, or choose the scan option in the software installed on the pc to do the same thing.

How do you use the "scan" function?

If you want to scan by pushing the button on the printer, you need to configure the options in the printers menu that tell it what to do and where to send the image before it will work.

If you want to scan by clicking on a button shown on your computer screen, then you need to install the printers software to configure the options and make it work.

So which one do you want to do?

I can walk you through configuring the scan options on your printer or help you locate the software to install on your pc and explain how to use it to scan.

Regardless of the choice above, you will need the printers drivers installed and the software too. So first question would be, do you have the software and is it installed? Is the printer connected to your pc and does it work alread? Do you have the drivers/software already? Do you need them? If so, go to Dell's website and download them and install them to your computer (disconnect the printer from the pc first and dont reconnect it until told to do so during the installation) and let me know if and when your ready to continue and we will make this work ok?

Remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken . It is possible that the cartridge is not contacting to the board .It can also be poor ink cartridge contacts.remove reset and repeat once again.

maybe it have the ink level chip which can be resetted by removing the cartridge and oning and offing the printer for 5 times within 10 minutes coz it saves data of a cartridge upto 5 use before only.. and 6th time insert it.

I am having the exact same problem. Just got my cartridge refilled, and whenever I hit the print command, I keep getting the message "printer cartridge missing." It's obviously there! gaahhh, so annoying! I hate dell.

try to reinstall the printer driver software. you can download the printer driver software from your printer manufacturer's web site then restart the computer and printer.

Right-click the printer icon on taskbar (lower right-hand corner of your screen, near the system time) and select cancel all documents OR double click the printer icon on the taskbar and right-click documents on queue and select cancel print.

Then you can uninstall and reinstall the printer driver/software.

Hi Scanning is a same process as compared with other scanners, Instruction:- 1. Keep the page in the printer scan area 2. Select the scan option.

Hi dingbat3223, If you are having problems printing just on a particular program such as Word or Excel, you have to go to the page setup and configure the margins. If you are having this problem printing anything, then check the paper size on the printer properties *depending on the OS* click on Start - Control Panel - Devices and Printers (on Windows 7) or Printers and Faxes (windows xp) and right click your dell printer and click on properties. Under Device Settings tab, make sure you have "Letter" as paper size. If you still have the same issue. Just uninstall the DELL software and reinstall again (DIsconnect the printer before re-installing), you can download the drivers on the dell.com website.

It is necessary to clean the printer spool. Go to control panel, printer and faxes, then right click and "cancel all documents". To get sure to be well, the number under the icon has to be zero. If it is zero you can send a new document after reset physically printer.
