Dell 1710n Laser Printer - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I am unable to locate the MAC address for this
To find your MAC address on the config page go to Standard Network Card then UAA (MSB, Canonical): you should have one or two sets of characters. the second set should be the MAC address to the printer. Hope this helps
I got a message on screen that says unrecognized
Are the new cartidges genuine DELL, or remanufactured?
If they are remanufactured cartridges, it is possible that they have had the wrong chip installed (there are several very similar chips, and people occasionally make mistakes),or faulty chip. A miising chip, or one that has come 'adrift' is also a possibility. If they were both bought at around the same time, from the same source, they could well be from the same production batch.
Clearly they should just work, and should have some sort of warranty, so talk to your supplier.
Paer prints half the PAGER AND THEN JAMS ... I
The paper must be hitting something to cause it to jam. Take the drum/toner cart out also the paper tray. Unplug it and hold it upside down and see if something shakes out. Do not do this over carpet. If that does not do try a test page. look at the leading edge for dings and bends. If you find a bent spot on the leading edge thats where the problem is. Its almost always a small piece of paper

Paper jam light won't turn off
Probably dust or a small piece of paper blocking the sensor. Can you blow it out with canned air or try a vacuum on it?

I change the ink cartage and get the message
The Drum which is a separate part has reached it's end of life. WHen you pull out the toner cart, you press a little button that separates it from the drum. that drum also comes out. You can tell it's the drum becuase of the green roller. You can go to support.dell.com for info on removing the drum if you don't have the manual.
*Note* When you replace the drum, there is a procedure for resetting the drum count. The printer doesn't actually know you replaced the drum. You basically have to tell it. Now this trick will get the printer working right now with the old drum. However, you still need to get it replaced.
THis link will tell you how to replace the drum and reset the count. The directions are for the 1720, however, it will work for the 1710 as well.

Hi there......Printer is offline and
Please tell more about how it is setup.
What is the version of operating system?
Just because you can ping to it does not mean that there is an
output on the printer side. Does the printer work in another configuration?
Hi there the Dell 1720dn
Hi
Check your printer connections.
Go to printer folder and clean all pending jobs.
Turn off your printer, Turn off your computer then Turn on your computer and Turn on your printer
Check the status for the printer must be "ready" (at the printer folder)
If not replace the printer cable.
If the problem still remains, uninstall and reinstall the printer.
If you're still having trouble after that, try sending something to your printer to print and when you see the printer icon pop up in your taskbar, double click on it. Then go to the File menu and make sure the option of "Work Offline" is unchecked.
However right clicking on that printer icon and clicking the choice that says "Set printer online” can also work. Or, there may be an actual button on your printer that can help you get it connected again. If your printer has one, it will say something like "Online" and you can press that button to reconnect your printer so that it will print once again. Now not all printers have that type of button but if your printer does have that button, it's an easy fix for this type of problem.

1710 will not print addresses on envelopes.
In Word | Preferences | Print, make sure Drawings Objects is checked under--Include with Document. The envelope feature puts the addresses in text boxes, which are in the
drawing layer, so they won't print if that box is not checked. Since Print
Preview shows nothing, this is likely the issue .----
also check this:--
shut down Word, then launch Word & see what happens.---
it shouldn't be necessary to copy/paste the address if you have a
standard address block in the open doc. Just choose Envelopes from the Tools
Menu & it will read in the address automatically. ---
This will
help. Thanks please keep
updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya
My printer is in idle mode and will not print.
I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges
