Too light of print
Blowing out dust is not a good idea. access to the laser optics is open on this machine, and you will only make the problem worse, by blowing dust and toner inside.
Dirty laser optics are the cause of our problem. The only way to solve is remove top cover of machine remove several wire connectors, remove cover of laser unit and clean all mirrors, motor, and reflectors.
HP Laserjet 1200 - continuous blinking yellow light
A flag is a little plastic piece that is hinged and goes in between a
sensor and a light source. They use a ton of them in printers. It actually looks like a flag, about 1/8th inch square that
can move in between the sensor parts. It's possible that it broke when
you took the envelope out. Most likely it's the paper exit sensor in
the fuser. They can break easily. If so, then you'll have to get the
sensor flag or a whole new sensor. Check with a local repair shop. They
should have the sensor and can install it in a jiffy.

Download the latest driver from HP => http://www.hp.com/#Support
It's version 4.7 released on November 25, 2008. I recommend downloading PCL6 as it supports 1200dpi. PCL5 only supports 600dpi. Windows Vista comes installed with PCL5.
The driver took a while to install about 4-5 minutes on Vista 32 bit Home Edition. I thought I hung as mentioned above. I left to do something else and came back and it was finished.
I was having trouble with the HP1200 not manual duplexing and printing one page only. The new driver fixed the issue.
Print Cartridge Detected is the Wrong Type - error message!
It sounds like the contacts on the cartridge sensor need cleaning.
First remove the cartridge, paper and feed tray. Use compressed air such as "DustFree" or other brand of "canned air" to blow all of the dust and toner out of the cartridge well and paper path. Then, using a lint-free dry cloth, clean the metallic contacts where they mate with the contacts on the cartridge. Just gently rub them off to remove any dust and toner residue. Do not use any liquids or chemicals on the lint-free cloth. If you do not have a lint-free cloth, you may use a clean (read new) rubber pencil eraser. After using the lint-free cloth or pencil eraser, spray the contacts again with canned air.
Reinstall the cartridge and paper and verify that the printer returns to the ready state. If it does not, you need a certified HP technician.
Gray background
Hi,
if you have a laser printer you may need to clean the printer or install a new drum cartridge, if it is ink-jet you will have to clean the bottom of the ink cradle it sound like you getting grey background from a toner/drum cartridge.

HP LaserJet wont pick up paper
Try cleaning the feed roller. It may have debris on it, making it slip. Use alcohol on a lint free cloth. Often you'll see on the paper where the roller slipped on the paper. There may be a dark smudge where the roller slipped. Check it out.

Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
Printing problem
That is usually an indication the fuser sleeve is worn out or is torn on that side. Start to print a full page and then open the front when the paper is halfway printed, remove the print cartridge and look at the print on the page. If it is good before going into the fuser then you will need to replace the fuser, which is expensive for that model. It is not available from HP any longer, but some places still sell it.

Reset printer to green light will not feed in paper ,just clicks,
I'm sorry that I misled you. I looked at the service info and your
problem refers to the system board. The HP people say that it is a
fatal error and that if unplugging and resetting the printer doesn't
work, then you have a system board problem. In that case, you'll have
to take it to a repair center and it'll probably cost more than the
printer is worth to repair it. Sorry.
