Display problem

If the noise is a high pitched hum or tone it is most likely a damaged capacitor. Look for caps that are bulging or leaking their electrolyte(usually looks like peanut butter.) Remember, before working on any capacitors make sure the unit has been unplugged and they have been given time to discharge or you could be in for a nasty shock. You can just de-solder the bad ones from the board and they should tell you their voltage and capacitance on a stripe down the side. Some will also tell you tolerances. Just match the capacitance and voltage when replacing them and you should be well on your way. If you need a place to find replacement parts check out mouser.com or digikey.com or your local electronics stores.

TV will not turn on unless unplugged and wait one hour then plug

Well, sounds like they may be changing the source from T.V. to HDMI or component/composit mode which is bassically for a C player or other connected source like a VHS or Xbox etc.

Allthough if this where the case, you should be able to use the remote to change the source back to the T.V. Antenna or cable if you have it.

WHen it goes blank or seems to be off, does anything you do turn it back on without having to unplugg it first?

If not, it could be bad, you will need to try hooking it up some where else for a while and test it without that person there and see if it the T.V. a bad outlet or the person is actually doing something.

If you think the T.V. is bad or faulty, at this early in its life, I would take it back under warranty before trying to fix it yourself.

Windows xp mce

Do you have tv tuners installed and setup properly? Media Center 2005 is just the software, the computer needs to have hardware tuners in it and hooked up to external antenna or cable.

Connect TV to dvd player

hdmi, S-video or jack are the most common cables delivered with the dvd, you can plug an amplifier between tv and dvd for a dolby system.
Turn on the DVD player, the TV and Set your TV on "AUX" or "Ext" with the remote.

Is my tv digital compatible or not

https://www.dtv2009.gov/FAQ.aspx What you need to know is whether your TV set has something called a “digital tuner” already built in. If it does, your TV set will work after February 17, 2009. The best way to determine whether your TV set has a digital tuner built in is to consult your owner’s manual. If that’s not possible, you may be able to look up information about your TV set on the manufacturer’s website. Or, you can take an up-close look at your TV set. In any case, you’re trying to find out if your set has an input connection labeled “digital input” or “ATSC” (for Advanced Television Systems Committee, which is the DTV format).

Here are some general guidelines that may help:

TV set made before 1998 was a traditional “analog” set. If you bought a big-screen, projection TV between 1998 and 2004, it may have a built-in digital tuner inside. But chances aren’t great. Only a limited percentage of projection TV sets (and generally only those 42 inches in diameter or larger) included digital tuners before 2004.

If you purchased a new TV set since 2004, your chances of having a built-in digital tuner improve dramatically. Starting in 2004, many of the TV sets sold at popular electronics stores feature digital tuners that will work after February 17, 2009. But it’s not a sure thing. Even some of the newer TV sets are purely display monitors that lack the internal circuitry needed to pick up digital broadcasts. Usually these sets have been advertised as “HD-ready” or “HDTV monitor” sets. That means they can display digital and high-definition signals, but they need help getting those signals in the first place. You’ll still need a special converter or a cable TV connection. Hope this info above helps. Also, check your manual, and if you don't have it some manufacturers, (Philips does for some models) offer the manual on their websites.

Phillips DLP 50 inch has no color great black and white picture

There is no color chip. What it does have is called a motor driven color wheel. The problem is that the color wheel is no longer spinning to produce color. Replace the color wheel and you should be fine.
