Hi,
i just red your solution on changing the region code of this printer from the europan zone to the US. I was just wandering if you know by chance the code number to do the same trick but on the opposite: from a US zone to the european,
Thanks
Jose

I'd like to change the region codes from a european supplied printer to accept u.s. ink cartridges. My company has been supplied this printer that was manufactured in belgium and shipped to the u.s.

Hi ,
Let me fist inform you that the question you asked for is related to "regionalization" of the printers . It is very particular to HP printers.
You can just regionalize your printer thrice in the enitre printer lifetime - not more than that. And the codes you are referring to - they are not there somewhere - they have to be logged in by the back end team who decode the "10-tap test" to re-enter the codes for regionalization so that the printer becomes compatible in the region you are using it in.
The cartridges even change in every country to make the printer work - let me state you how.....as per www.hp.com
HP Photosmart C3100 All-in-One series This product uses regionalized ink supplies, so the inkjet print cartridges for the product depends on where you are in the world. If you do not know which pen regionalization zone you are in, click here to view the Regionalization Country-to-Zone Mapping Table . Once you know the zone, you can identify the cartridges used in this product. Cartridge Description Zone 1 Zone 2 Zone 3 Zone 4 black inkjet print cartridge HP 92 HP 336 HP 132 HP 850 tri-color inkjet print cartridge HP 93 HP 342 HP 136 HP 854 black inkjet print cartridge Not availaible HP 338 HP 131 Not available tri-color inkjet print cartridge HP 95* HP 343 HP 135 HP 855 photo inkjet print cartridge HP 99 HP 348 HP 138 HP 858 *The HP 95 is not compatible with printers sold only in North America; instead, use the HP 93 Tri-color cartridge. Refer to the link to understand how the world is divided into 4 zones - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpa00586&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1146331#zone_mapping And you can beleive into what i say as I work for HP printers....! the best i would suggest is to call up Technical / Customer Care centre and tell them you need to reset....they will assist you for 10-tap test and ask you to send them the 10-tap test and the Proof of Purchase of the region cartridges.....and then wait for the back end team to call you within the next 48 hours.

Cartridge errors on HP97 / bad TSR?

Hello Bob-

I hope you don't mind me directly asking you a question regarding strange behavior on several HP 9- series cartridges I have here at work. I've noticed you have extensive HP experience in printers and I am actually ex-HP as well.

We have several printers: Deskjet 5740, Officejet 7310, Deskjet 6940. I have 3 cartridges (one each 93, 95, 97) that are not accepted by any of these printers- the cartridge light flashes immediately on insertion and when I run the 10-tap it gives stat=8. The specific error and message I have found under the system events section is 69961 "pen in chute 0 has t", which I believe means a TSR failure? Here is the kicker- all 3 cartridges seem to have good TSR's, as measured by my trusty multimeter (in the 70-72 ohm range, like others I have around that are working fine). I also have ruled out printer contact issues as these printers accept many other cartridges well, have had their contacts cleaned, and the cartridge errors are very repeatable only on these particular cartridges. Are you aware of any other reason we could be getting this error message?

Also, if there is a print job in the queue and I run a tap test, the print job then successfully prints with good print quality, so there doesn't seem to be a major electrical issue with these cartridges.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi Scott -

Sorry, I do not have any additional ideas as it seems you have checked things I would have suggested - cleaning the contacts. (I presume you did clean the cartrdige contacts in addition to the printer contacts.) The TSR may be correct but may be encoded incorrectly, which could cause an issue as this would make the printer "think" the cartridge was too hot or too cold. The printer will refuse to print with certain ID errors. A 10-tap will bypass this test as a diagnostic aid. Does the 10-tap show a "good" nozzle diagnostic? If there are repeating missing nozzle segments across all three colors it would indicate an interconnect issue.

If the cartridges are original HP cartridges I would check the warranty date (two years warranty from date of manufacture) as shown here. If the cartridges are still in the warranty period contact HP for replacements.

HP Deskjet 6940 not printing after replacing ink cartridge

My HP Deskjet 6940 is not printing. The color (left) low ink light is dark and the black (right) low ink light is flashing. I replaced the black ink cartridge with a new one but the low ink light continues to flash. No tears/rips in the circuit strip and all the copper leads appear to be connected. I alcohol-swabbed the connections and still nothing.

give a try to dis one..

Remove all the cartridges and the paper from the printer...Power off the printer...unplugg the power cable from the back of the printer...while printer is unplugged from the power..press n hold the power button for atleast 60 seconds then release it..open the back door of the printer and look for any paper jam...remove paper from behind (if any) and roll the rollers in upward direction from behind..close the back door and connect the power cable to the printer and power on the printer..Look for the cartridge slots and clean it wid a lynt free cloth and the copper contacts of the cartridges as well...then insert only one cartridge (black or color) and close the cartridge door and check for any blinking lights on the printer...similarily repeat it with the other cartridge..by this u wud get to know if any cartridge is faulty? If u get blinking lights on the printer ...that means there is some problem,,,
Once you see the steady green light on the power..it means the printer is ready..You can also print a test page..."Press n Hold the power button down...while holding the power button down...either press "Down Arrow button" 4 Times OR "Red X button once"...then release the Power button to print the test print..
If it prints ..u r the master !!!
Best of luck

Remember if there is any blinking light,,the printer wont prin..
if the light blinks around the drops..it means there is cartridge issue and you may even replace the cartridges..make sure u remove the pink tape carefully before inserting the cartridges.

ALL THE BEST

HP 6940 color cartridge light will not stop blinking

I have changed cartridges and, not only will the light not stop blinking, the printer will no longer print. The document window for the printer shows a document queued to print, but the printer does not see it. The ink status reader does not see a color cartridge at all (black shows full).

I might have an idea why this is happening....The print cartridges might need cleaning...
Follow the steps below to do this....

Step one: Remove the black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge

NOTE:
The black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge is in the right side of the carriage. -Lower the cover of the product.
-If the print cartridge status light flashes, proceed to Step two: Replace the print cartridge.
If the print cartridge status light is off, proceed to Step three: Manually clean the print cartridge.
Step two: Replace the black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge and remove the tri-color print cartridge
- Remove plastic tape from new ink carttridge CAUTION:
Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Do not remove the copper electrical contacts.

NOTE:
The tri-color print cartridge is in the left side of the carriage.
-Lower the cover of the product. -If the print cartridge status light stops flashing, proceed to Step three: Manually clean the print cartridge.
If the print cartridge status light still flashes, replace the tri-color print cartridge. If the issue continues, service the product.

Step three: Manually clean the print cartridge
1. Gather the following items to clean the print cartridge and carriage:
o Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge.
o Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well).
o Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridges on during cleaning.
2. Open the product cover, and wait until the carriage stops moving.
3. Remove the print cartridge, and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.

NOTE:
Clean the contacts quickly so that the print cartridge is not outside of the product for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the product for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles.
4. Unplug the product.
5. Dip a swab in the clean water, and then squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
6. Clean the print cartridge contacts. Do not touch the nozzles.
7. Clean the contacts in the carriage, inside the product.8. Either let the print cartridge sit for ten minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
9. Reinstall the print cartridge.
10. Plug the product back in.
11. Close the product cover.

Good Luck!
If there is anything more I can do for you please let me know if not and the problem is solved please rate it, Thanks, JCE

Remove the ink cartridge and gently clean the printer head (shiny silver wafer) with hot water, glass cleaner, or isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Run the HP head cleaner with the software that was supplied with your printer afterward. Visit HP.com if you need the software or your user manual.

Print heads become blocked for a number of reasons, but the most common is simply that the ink cartridge has dried out, and so has the print head. Anyway, here are a few hints and cleaning methods that MIGHT get things working again.

  • Never let the printer stand with an empty cartridge. Either fit a fresh one, or seal the print head unit in a plastic bag with a few drops of water for humidity.
  • If the print head has become clogged and the printer's head-cleaning cycle won't help (run it 10 times if you have to) you could try these things:
    • Soak the print head in hot water then leave it overnight, then try it again
    • If you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner that will take the printhead, use that. (These are used by jewellers and other people which have to clean small, intricate parts)
    • Buy some Isopropyl Alcohol and soak the printhead in that overnight. (You can get it from the chemist)
    • Use a Mr Cuppacino (or your Espresso machine). It's a small kitchen appliance which creates a jet of steam for frothing milk for making a cappuccino. You can use the jet of steam to blast the print head. But be careful that you don't melt things -- short, sharp jets only.
    • Each time you try a cleaning method, use a damp paper towel to gently wipe and dry the print head area.
    • Put a teaspoon of water in the bottom of the empty cartridge and try the cleaning cycle a few times.
