Win 7 has been very thoroughly reworked so those 'missing' files were probably never there. Go to the HP website and click your way to the product support page for your model. I'm fairly sure you will find and updated install program or at least new drivers compatible with Win 7.

on the bottom right side of your computer screen you will find a icon of a printer.click on it .a screen with the printer driver will apper and the job you printed will be listed on that screen.right click on it and then click "cancel"you can leave the printer turned of as it will take a few minutes to do this.during this time the printer will keep pushing out paper if it is not turned off.

I had the same problem.I bought another printer.

Temporarily here is what I did. I used a USB cable that has lights. Whenever the print spooler jammed, the light would not be on. Then go to START, RUN, type in "CMD". This open a DOS window. Type "NET STOP SPOOLER". Wait for it to say it has stopped. Then type "NET START SPOOLER". It will start, then you can close the DOS window.

Unfortunately this helped only half the time. Some times I would reboot, only to have my job print on restart!!!!!

First, go to this site:

Deskjet 5440 Support

Click on Software & Driver Downloads. Then select your operating system.

The available software will then be listed. Look for the full feature and driver. (There is also a link to order a new CD if desired for some OS.)

When you click on the file name you will get another page that has Install or Download Only buttons. I suggest that you use the Download Only option. When you click it you will get a download window that allows you to Run or Save. Choose Save.

Another window will open. Click on Desktop on the left side of the window. Then click Save. The file will be downloaded to your desktop.

Prepare your printer...ink, paper, turn the power ON. Disconnect the USB cable. Run (double-click) the file on your desktop. Connect the USB cable when prompted by the software.

That should get you going.

Be sure you have it setup correctly and the IP address is correct. Also you may want to check with Netgear on whether or not that model is compatible with Bi-Directional printers.

Use an uninstaller like http://www.revouninstaller.com/
to completely remove it.You should uninstall the new drivers for the new printer also,then do a clean install for the 2660.That probably will correct the compatibility issues.Take care!

I think you need to set your print size to 4 by 6 on the printer or on the system and click on apply and ok to make sure is not on default.

shut down the pc, shut down the printer.
power it back on and the pc.
if still does not detect, do the following
on the desktop chose My Computer/right click/System Properties/Hardware Tab/Device Manager/go to Universal Serial Bus Ctl (this will be at the last of the list)/ + click plus sign on the left to expand /go to each and check if all devices are working properly by right clicking go to properties, then go to USB root hub (if there are more than 1 then go to each one by one and do the foll)
go to 1st USB root hub, right click, properties, power management tab, remove the tickmark on the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off power to save power"
Do this for all the USB root hubs listed there.
Shut down PC and restart. Check if now the printer is being detected.

Did you reboot (restart) or did you do a restore? If you did a restart or turned off the computer and then turned it back on, I'd check for a bad cable. Many printers can be reset by unplugging the power and the USB cable (from both the computer and the printer) for a few minutes.

If you returned your computer to the original configuration or rolled back to a system restore point, then I can see losing your printer drivers.

will give you the drivers for most operating systems. Win7 has the drivers in the operating system.

If you use a Windows OS and your computer hasn't given you found new hardware dialog box, check if your cable is good and properly connected. (If it is attached through a print server, you may need to directly connect it to the computer to load the drivers.) Frequently, a bad USB cable or USB port can be identified by changing where you have the printer connected.
