20 Most Recent Sony Cyber-shot DSC-M2 Digital Camera Questions & Answers

I have a digital camera that uses a compact flash memory card. In theory it holds about 100 pictures but in fact it only holds about 15 and then goes on strike. I replaced the memory and the camera is working and now hopefully capacity is restored. Just in case the camera is failing it is advisable to ensure all your pictures are downloaded and backed up. I suggest you read the instruction manual. If a device doesn't operate per the instructions it can be considered faulty. In that case there could be useful advice available from the manufacturer's website.

It is still possible to retrieve the photos, but I need to ask some questions first. Was your SD card working before with your camera? When you insert that card into other devices or in a memory card reader, can it be recognized?

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, press the RESET button located above the PHOTO button which will change all settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks for contacting FixYa

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

OK you are probably going to think I am loony giving you this advise But No I am completely sane!

Get a can of compressed air OR acces to a compressor at your local garage Get them to fit the triggered air blower tool to it.

Blow around the lens in all the extension joins the firmly slap it in the palm of you hand with the side of the camera making contact with you palm. Do the procedure two or 3 times and inbetween the slaps turn it on to activate the lens mechanism. I have now fixed about 80 of these cameras with this method. I obtained the fix from Sony who charge $90 to do exactly the same. Keep at it as it will eventually work. One tip, make sure the battery is charged before you do this.

A warranty job I would imagine I could be nothing more than a spec ot dirt of course. Try some simple things like a blast of air[ Don't blow- your breath is moisture laden - not a good thing for cameras] or a thin tissue[cigarette paper slipped around the hinge area. Would not go beyond there simple measures if it is to be a warranty job.

You're camera shoots movies in MPEG4 format so basically any program which plays MPEG4 will do the job. If you still have the CD which came with the camera it has Nero Vision Express 3 software which will need installing. Your PC will then recogbize the movie files. Don't forget the movie files will be in a different folder on the memory card and they be called something like M4V00101.MP4 M4V00102.MP4 etc. The movie quality isn't the best so don't get your hopes up. I thought it was a mobile phone when I first saw one of these :-) BMW

Unfortunately this is a Japanese spec walkman and there is no option to change the language!you could try to flash (replace) the firmware from an English spec walkman but if not done properly that could damage it and make it unusable!I would just live with it and possibly learn Japanese ??

Not unless your willing to do it yourself. Tweezers to pick at it or a precision screwdriver set to dissemble the unit and remove the card and reassemble. Good Luck Mr.Mike
