Dell 1905FP powers up but screen goes black after a few minutes

The monitors inverter seems to be failing. If you look up close, can you see a very faint image of the desktop? You should think about getting a new monitor it might be cheaper than repairing.

Cannot raise vertical height after pushing button on back of monitor (button stuck in)

With the monitor in the lowest position, push down slightly on the monitor and push the button in. While holding the button in you should be able to raise the monitor with your other hand. This worked on the one I have.

Fuzzy area on right side

I also have this same problem.... I took the thing apart blew the dust out and put it back together..... no change. I was not able to fix the problem, but if you go into the color settings you can tweak back the red and green to the the heavy distortion to go away. It is almost unnoticeable now.

Good luck

The screen flashes

Hello,This is a common indication of bad filter capacitors on the power supply board. Below is a picture of the power supply board with the problem capacitors circled in yellow. The repair is easy, you just need to replace those capacitors and the unit should be as good as new. Below the picture is also a link to a full repair guide showing how to dis-assemble the monitor and what parts need to be replaced. the repair guide has a full parts list for the job.9_24_2012_10_46_26_pm.jpgThe repair guide can be found here:http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-a-dell-1905fp-1907fp-lcd-monitor/

CAN'T GET THE MONITOR OUT

Hello,If you have a blinking power light and no display even when you first power up the unit then its not in power saving mode. The blinking power light indicates a failure of the filter capacitors on the power supply board. This is a very common problem with LCD monitors after a few years of service. The power supply can be repaired by just replacing the defective filter capacitors. Here is a picture of the power supply board with the bad caps circled in yellow and below that is a link to a full repair guide showing how to open the unit and what to replace including a full parts list.9_24_2012_8_54_49_pm.jpghttp://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-a-dell-1905fp-1907fp-lcd-monitor/I hope this helps you out,BuddyMc

My Dell 1905FP 19 monitor went black & green power light flickers

It sound like a short circuit. I had this problem with 1907FP model. It had an USB port on the monitor which got damaged and it was shortening to the groung. In your case it might be a bad internal power supply board.

I have a 3 yr Dell UltraSharp 1905FP LCD monitor.

yman1949, Your 1905FP unit is not working as it was designed to do! Here is something you can relate your problem to. The white light needed to see what is on your lcd panel is produced by "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" (2) that require 600-1200vac to start and sustain the fluorescent light output. If the DC source (switch-mode-power-supply) or the CCFL's electronic ballast circuit (inverter) fails you will have a black SCREEN to look at. However, your problem is just a little different, yet still a common one that can be dealt with in the same manner as any lcd with a faulty SMPS or INVERTER circuit. I highly suspect that over time (3yrs) this unit has developed a (1, maybe 2) "thermally stressed" solder joint(s) in either of the two circuits, and have now turned thermally intermittant. Once that occurs, the gases in the air we breath start to play a major role in making the problem WORSE!! They now invade the void in the thermally FRACTURED solder joint, and begin to OXIDIZE the metal (tin, lead, silver) causing more resistance in the surrounding area, thus taking your monitor a longer period of time to turn on than before. If the monitor were to have warm air force fed thru the rear ventilation slots prior to turning on the unit, to warm it up from being off all night, you might prove out this therory. This unit might be fixed quite easily with just reheating a "frosty" looking solder joint on a printed circuit board. Finding it is another thing! I use an old WWII surplus inspection microscope to find them when a magnifying glass can't cut it!! Well, yman1949 let me know what you find out, lmistyrel
@aim.com because I'm curious. You can do additional comment when you have time, after visiting YOUTUBE to watch some video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair"!!! The longer ones are better but none have purchased any CLOSE-UP lenses to show any real close-ups required to SEE the PROBLEM of HAIRLINE thermal fractures of power transistors and inverter "step-up transformers" on the suspect boards. You may also visit a site run by another tech on fixya. www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm who also knows about the common failure modes of the crappy far-east junk monitors we import into the USA. Pay particular attention to pictures of failed "electrolytic filter capacitors that have "swollen/domed" looking tops that mayor may not be leaking stuff out the top or bottom!!! Good luck and I hope to see some stuff added to the above request. I'm 12fixlouie aka louie12fix

My Dell 1905FP LCD monitor Power light blink on startup

Hello,This is a classic symptom of filter capacitor failure on the power supply board. The Dell 1905FP and 1907FP both use the same power supply and this type of failure is very common. You can repair the unit by replacing the filter capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a picture of the board with the problem capacitors circled and below is a link to a repair guide for this series monitor.9_24_2012_8_40_16_pm.jpghttp://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-a-dell-1905fp-1907fp-lcd-monitor/I hope this helps,BuddyMc
