there are few options:
1. use the software you got in the CD that came with the camera.

Hello my camera will not
Possible that the line fuse is blown that is in the PCb and must be checked in the power panel board behind the battery panel.
open carefully and check , if fuse is intact then you might need help from Sony service as the main board could have a possible regulator or IC failure.
Checkthe tab
There is a protection for erasing off your recordings and so if the DV tape has got the tap taken out you might have to reset it in. remove tape and see at the back side of the tape for the tab.
Once it is set back the recording link will activate the camcorder to go for recording over this tape.
I lost my cd software
Forget those software. It is of little or no use at all.
Even windows movie maker can do as good
job (if not better than) those pic.package thing. But you need to use

superior than USB cable connection,too.
How can i download pictures
Install DV interface card at your computer after that you can transfer your video at your system through 1394 cable
Window 7 problem cannot detect my video cam
After connecting the Camcorder to the Computer with the Firewire/i.LINK, turn ON the Camcorder.
Keep the Camcorder in Playback mode.
Start the Moviemaker Software which is pre-installed in the Windows.
Check whether the Camcorder is recognized as the Video Device.
If the Camcorder is not recognized, then check whether it works with other Computer or not.
You may also try using a different i.LINK cable that is compatible with the Sony Camcorder.
Sony Camcorder have 4 pin DV Interface and the Computers may have either 4pin or 6-pin i.LINK/Firewire port. So make sure that you are using the correct cable.
Cannot load tape
No problem the camera is telling you to use tape head cleaner before trying to record more movies that all.
Sony handycam was not connecting
Ha, you are so right, if you are on Windows Vista/or the new 7 then your Sony camera will no longer see a connection so you are going to buy a Firewire yes? as that is the only cable that works these days with Sony, unless you return to windows 95 or XP that is.
My sony handycam digital 8 285E is showing problem C : 31: 22
Well I have not had this happen in my own Sony 340 8 camera, but I have head of it lots of times.
Make sure your tape is re-wound to start, check that the safe tab on rear of take is not pulled over the hole (it prevents writing over stuff you want to keep.
CANNOT CONNECT DCR-TRV285E PAL ON MY COMPUTER WITH OS- VISTA
Dear Sony camera user,
Yes the Sony camera needs a driver in Windows PC's and no drivers are yet available for Win Vista or Win 7 PC user's.
However if your camera has, and I am sure it has a Firewire cable (Plug marked with windmill marker) then you do not need a driver, just the cable to fit your camera to the Firewire port (Marked with windmill) on your PC.
Your cable will be available from Sony, and Maplin Electrical, PC World and good camera shops at around £14.
Good luck,
from
David
Can not paly
Make sure you are putting the right digital tapes in, I use digital 8 myself, best mode yet, cannot understand anyone filming with lesser modes like DVD, as tape has always and will always be best.
The problem your camera has is dirty playback heads, grab a 8 mm camera cleaner tape from any good camera shop like Jessops, do not let them tell you the camera has had it's day, because the rubbish I see of new cameras these days are not worth buying.
