Connected my acer AL 1717

You have to plug the monitor speakers in. The sound output from your sound card is green, and you connect a small cable between that port and the input on your monitor.

  • Hello chaleebradsh, the "Monitor" as well the Computer have "Power Saving Modes," [Sleep, ScreenSavers, and Hibernation]; so what you want to do is "Change the way the Computer / Monitor Sleeps!" From the Desktop Screen, click on the "Start Button," next in the [Start Search Window], type: power. In the next [window] that opens, you should see, from your point of view; a "list" in the (left column) "Change when the computer sleep, the wording may be different, but it will be clear enough. Now all you have to do is change the way the Computer and Monitor "Sleep, or Turn-off." If the Monitor have its own "settings;" just find them by the [button on the monitor], and do the same thing as above; but I'm sure the computer will take care of both. Few seconds in display

If you have already verify that it does the same when attached to another PC, then more likely the problem will be bad caps with domed tops as shown in my pictures here:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Acer%20AL1717Abm/

You should replace them in a set.
If you need service manuals, you can download for free here:
http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&megnev=ACER&megnev2=AL1717&kategoria=monitor&kat2=all

I use thin falt blade screw driver to crack open the case after all the screws and the base is removed, starting at the bottom egde and work your way around, be carefull on the cable attached to the front bezel.

Sudden failure - working fine then next time

You could have a power supply problem in the LCD monitor.
First check the power lead, make sure it is firmly inserted into the mains socket and into the monitor.
Try inserting it into a different main socket that is operating, to see if the power indicator LED lights up.
If you have determined it is the LCD monitor is faulty, then it requires repairing.

Why does it take so long to see my desktop icons

bsellers, Tell me in "seconds", "minutes", how long is "so long". Do you even see the "boot screen" pop-up when booting the pc? You should see that first if lcd monitor is turned on first. Are you running a Windows OS? Will a "known-good" VGA monitor work ok when connected to your PC?? Will your AL1717 do same thing when connected to different "known-good" PC?? Did you even look at the "date of manufacture" on the rear of your monitor? Retrevo .com lists 1717 as time to retire??? Was your unit produced in "06" or "07"?? Let me know results of doing some simple "swap-out" tests. 12fixlouie
