We have had this monitor for about a year and it

If it is less than one year, then contact ACER, and exercise the "warranty" to get it repaired/replaced at _minimal_ cost to you.

Screen wont stay on

It can be power supply caps, bad lamp assemblies, backlights inverter.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The monitor flashes on/off then the ACER screen,

There are a number of issues that can cause this. The first that comes to mind is that if you have a video card with 2 ports on it (check where your video cable currently plugs in) you may need to switch to the other one. If there is an input button on the bottom right of the monitor near the power button you may need to press it to select the appropriate input (Newer monitors include HDMI, DVI, and VGA). If this doesn't work try a known good monitor to see if maybe it's a problem with the computer itself.

The power light flashes off, yellow, green.

It does the same with another PC? VGA cable OK?
Otherwise look for bad DC filter caps with domed tops, check the MOSFET, Transformer, voltages.

I can see the little light is on below the acer

Hi AnnG,

You need to check 3 things to fix this problem.

1. Check the VGA/DVI/HDMI Video cable that is connected from your monitor to your computer or video card.

2. Try to check the RAM or Memory Module. Check if properly connected.

3. Check the Video Card if properly connected to the port.

4. If still nothing happens you might have a bad monitor

Test all those three peripherals and it would fix your issue. Thanks for using Fixya.
