HP f2104 LCD black screen

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!

Cannot get sound , cannot

Push the menu button for 10~15 seconds to lock/unlock the control buttons.

Sound problem; try feeding it with MP3 player to see if you get the sound OK, need to verify if it is the monitor problem or the PC sound card problem first.

Everytime I turn on moniter it goes into sleep

If there was something wrong with the monitor itself it wouldn't go to sleep it would just turn off. It sounds to be as if there is an issue with the signal going to the monitor itself, try restarting your PC and ensure that the connection on the back of the monitor and the connection on the back of your PC are secure.

Changing backlight

Are you sure the lamp assemblies is/are bad? The screen will have to be completely torn down to get the lamp assemblies out, not recommend for beginner, I would practice on a broken screen first and it must be done in really dust free enviroment. You need lamp tester and a set of test lamps for testing the lamps and the inverter circuits.
All the voltages and fuses OK?

My monitor won't stay on

It is "normal" for a monitor to "go black" when it is NOT connected to a computer.

Connect it to a different computer, to see if the video-card on your computer has failed, and to see if the LCD monitor works at all.

If it were smaller than 17-inches, I would say "cheaper to buy a new one than to pay for repair".

Beverly, F2105 unit will need to be disassembled and new momentary tactile switch soldered in. Check out ALL the different styles and sizes to choose from at digikey.com !!! at least 16 pages of switches to choose from. Then you will need a soldering iron, solder wick, solder, and know how to disassemble unit to replace a $2 to $6 switch. If contracting out the work to competent technician your looking at minimum $45.
Forget fixing the plastic button. Crazy-glue only option there.

jho delacruz, If very "strange stuff" is occuring on lcd screen, then you will do a lot of reading here at old 2005 web blog: http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ The monitor internal power supply may need you to inspect and repair it to stablize the +5.00 volt and +12 volt dc supply rails. Let me know if you find bad capacitors on the printed circuit board and be sure to let me know the "brand name" of those that "swollen"/ "leaky".
Your unit may not be "black screen of death" symptom, but has failed for same reason as BSOD symptom. Keep in touch. 12fixlouie

Monitor works ok for a short while (10-20) minutes

You will have to open up and take the voltage readins before and after the problem occurs. It may be as simple as cold solder joints.
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/HP%20F2105/

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The monitor starts up and goes into sleep mode

After repairing the on/off button for $100.00 and then rehooking up the monitor to my pc, the monitor has power but stays asleep even when I push in the menu button, I can't get anything to happen. HP techs tell me that the problem is with my computer although it worked perfectly fine before I unhooked all to send out the monitor.

I hooked all back up again as before but now the monitor will only say "monitor going to sleep" and nothing happens.

Wishing I had a solution. Thanks
