Router locked. Cant remember the password.. User "root"

Hi,
The only solution for u to login in to the router is to reset the router.

1.If you forgot your password, you must reset your router. Unfortunately this process will change all your settings back to the factory defaults.

2.To reset the router, locate the reset button (hole) on the rear panel of the unit. With the router powered on, use a paperclip to hold the button down for 10 seconds. Release the button and the router will go through its reboot process.

3.Wait about 30 seconds to access the router.

4The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. When logging in, type in the default User Name “admin,” and the
default Password “admin” then click on the OK button to access the web-based manager.

Regards,
Ayyasam

Router stopped working.

Turn off your router.
Turn off your cable-modem (or ADSL adapter).
Wait 10 seconds.
Turn on your cable-modem (or ADSL adapter).
Turn on your router.

If you don't have access:

Turn off your router.
Wait 10 seconds.
Look on the back of the router for a small hole.
Straighten-out a paper-clip (invented in Norway),
and push it into the hole, and hold it in for 10 seconds.
This will "reset" your router to "factory" settings.
(This will lose all your "wireless-security" settings.)
Turn the router on.
From your computer, connect to the router's web-interface.
Re-instate the "wireless-security" settings.

How do you get your web key code for this because

It is a 'WEP' ("Wired Equivalent Protocol") key, not a 'WEB' key.

Use a network-cable to connect any computer to your router.

Click: Start -> Run
Enter 'run', and press ENTER.
Enter 'ipconfig /all'.
Look for:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
....
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.xxx.yyy

Into your web-browser, enter: http://192.168.xxx.yyy
to "login" to the web-interface on your router.

There should a "wireless configuration wizard",
when you can set/view the WEP key.
Or, maybe, select 'WIRELESS' and then 'STATUS' buttons to view it.

Trying to connect lap top

The WEP key is something you designate on your own router. IF you are trying to get into someone else's router you need to ask them for permission to have their WEP key. Otherwise you cant get in. If you forget your WEP key you can do a hard reset on the router to clear out the key.

Router problems

Make sure you have the cable plugged to the right spot. Your modem to the Internet/WAN port and your computer to port 1, the 2nd pc to port 2. Try to reset the router. There's a reset button at the back of the router. Hold it down for 30 seconds. Then do a power cycle. Unplug the power from the back of the router and also unplug the power from the modem. Wait for 30 seconds. After that, Plug the power back to the modem first, wait for all the lights to be steady then plug the power back to the router. That should do it.

No internet and can't connect to laptop

Congratulations, as you went through all the right steps of the process of elimination and solved the problem yourself!! The WHR-G54s is apparently non functional as to wifi, but works fine as a cat 5 direct wire connect, which may also be indicative of pringle-can snooping by a needy neighbor. If you limited the number of connects to the wifi to one and some other person queued in ahead of you, it could cause the problem you cite. If the same problem occurs with the replacement linksys router try changing your encryption key or pw and see if that screens out the interloper, if that's your problem.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Cannot open web page through router

Try opening network connections TCP/IPv4 on your pc and add ip address manualy to be in the same number match the same as your router ie default gateway and preferred DNS Server eg 192.168.1.1 or 10.1.1.1 depending on what default the router is set on the ip address should be the same apart from the last no. eg 192.168.1.8 or 10.1.1.8 subnet mask will default to the right setting if you push the tab key after entering the ip address

Hope this helps

Cannot get onto internet

disable the firewall on control panel.
check all the properties boxes on the network
connections and make sure firewall is disabled.

access the router setup and make sure that VCI is set to manual
and that you enter in the settings yourself (eg: 0,38 for aol broadband). Don't leave VCI, etc on auto, the router can't handle it.

Cannot connect to 192.168.11.1

Hi

That's an unusual IP address for a router.

I should think it should be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

Try them.....
