I have a Cannon EOS

There is a small Lithium coin battery on the side of the battery compartment that is the memory battery for the camera functions. Remove the battery pack first, then holding the camera with the lens facing your body look at the top back ledge of the battery compartment and see lettering CR2016. slide your finger down the back ledge and feel the ridges. with slight pressure slide the compartment up and take out the CR lithium coin battery. replace with a like new battery. If you ever need to reset a stuck program in the camera, remove this battery for a few minutes and the camera will re-boot to factory settings. This battery last for about 5 years.

No image on LCD monitor

Hi,
Please note that your camera must be experiencing these symptoms due to a faulty CCD, and not due to other problems. Replacement with a new CCD will fix this problem for sure.

Canon 30D (1year old)

This is what the people at the canon tech support say to do for error 99

read this!! :)

The guy at tech support listened and then told me that the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens’ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them.

Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.

I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked

hope this works for you!!!! have a nice day!! :) :)

Spots in the same place

Sounds like dirt on the sensor. Google the words "cleaning a DSLR sensor" and you will find sites explaining the procedure and places to obtain supplies. It's very easy to do yourself.

Cf error - camera now dead

None of this sounds good. I would start by checking the condition of the pins in the CF card slot. A small light and a loupe will help. If any of the pins are damaged, bent, or even missing, then the camera may have had a short circuit and blown the internal fuses. Neither the pins or the fuses are user replaceable.

30D locks up and won't take pictures.

are you taking photos of still or moving subjects? One shot is suitable for still subjects, someone sitting down or still life shots. The camera will balk at you if you are constantly panning or have moving items in the fiewfinder field of the focus points and it is set in one-shot mode.
try changing to AI Servo and see if the problem continues.

Card reads full when it is empty

Try formatting the card in the camera. If all you did was delete the pics, the camera may still see them and think the card is full.

I attached the Canon EOS30D to new computer before

When you installed the utility is not an issue...it doesn't matter. Microsoft updates often prevents some hardware such as your camera from being recognized. Why not use a separate card reader to download your pics?...works every time.

Trying to clean sensor, but

Hi,
I assume you have the manual again. If you don't have the pdf it is available here. I assume your referring to the instructions on p. 41.
http://www.canon-30d.com/Canon-EOS-30D-Manual.PDF
You will want to make sure your lens is detached and then perform those steps. Also what is your firmware vesion?
Thank you,
