Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Error 99 on 30D Canon
Had this problem before and i found this guide online
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.
EOS 30D is slow to fire.
Are you sure you aren't in the delay setting in drive mode? This camera has 2 delay settings, one for 2 seconds between when you press the shutter and when it takes the photo, and one with 10 seconds delay - often used when you want to be in the photo (e.g. self-portrait or group photo).
If you aren't in the delay mode, then I need to know more about your settings. What shooting mode are you using? What type of photo are you trying to take (portrait, landscape, sports)? Are you shooting indoors, outdoors, bright sunlight, overcast, etc.?

Sounds like it needs service. You can try resetting the camera to its factory default settings and see if that does anything. On the Setup Menu (wrench and hammer symbol), go to Clear settings, then Clear all camera settings, and select OK. This is covered on page 37 of the manual.

This is not a direct solution, but I find that my image transfers are much faster when I pull out the CompactFlash card and put it in a card reader to pull the imagery off.
With respect to the actual problem, try "rebooting" your camera (switch off, then on) and/or reseating the USB connector.
Canon 30D
Is the lens a Canon EF or EF-S lens? Have you used it before on this particular camera body? Did you do anything else (change memory cards, etc.) at the same time you changed the lens?
Try taking off the lens and cleaning the electrical (metal) contacts on both the lens and the body with a small dust-free cloth or pencil eraser. If that doesn't help, switch in the lens you were using before. If it works with the original lens, there may be an electrical problem with the other one. If it no longer works with the original lens, you may need to have it serviced.
Error code 22
ERR 22: CF DRIVER
DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when image data cannot be written to the
CF card. This error can occur when the CF card is not fully seated in
the camera or if the D30 does not detect a card-ready signal within a
specified time limit or when the CF card is not usable because it has
been corrupted or physically damaged. It can also occur when the camera's
battery level is insufficient to completely write the file to the CF card.
REMEDIAL MEASURE: Use the DC Coupler or recharge the battery first. If
the error continues to occur with sufficient power available to the camera,
check that the CF card is properly inserted. If that's not the problem,
then try replacing the CF card. If that does not solve the problem, have
the EOS D30 and one of the CF cards that is causing the problem examined
by a qualified service technician.

Adding prefix
you can use an automation script in photoshop. Do a google search for it. I can't remember how to do it off hand! ALternatively, you can do a batch rename using infranview. Again, google is your friend.
Ex & Built-in Flash
You need to do what is called an exposure lock. Aim at the subject, even if it's out of focus and half press your shutter. Then press the * button on the camera (top right) and it will exposure lock. You can then re-focus, but it will hold the exposure that was metered previously, so you'll get focus on a different object to what the camera has focused on. You can exposure lock anywhere, it doesn't even have to be your subject, it could be a nearby window to underexpose, or a nearby dark area to underexpose. Once you've locked the exposure you can focus somewhere else.
Date/Time
European and US days/months settings are the opposite way round. You are changing the month setting, hence only 12.
you can change the option from dd/mm/yy to mm/dd/yy by selecting the dd or mm and changing it as described on page 39 of the manual available on this link;

Hope this helps, please post again if you still have trouble :)
7d - problem with shots remaining
Maximum for counter is 999. Counter is showing 999 because you have space available for more than 999 shots. If you've got a very large memory card it may tke quite some time to get below 999.

Top edge of my photo is a black diagonal shadow
Sounds like it could be vignetting from either a lens hood or an accessory. Are you seeing this in all photos or flash only? If flash, sometimes a wide shot with a lens hood on will block the flash output and cause the described shadow line.

Why is there nothing showing in my lcd after I turn camera on?
This is an indication that the LCD is not functioning. You haven't indicated the make and model of your camera but if it has a view finder, try taking some picture and view them in a computer. No view-finder? Just point and shoot some subjects and view then from a computer.
Are the pictures OK? If they are than you might want to maintain that style while looking for replacement parts of service tech.
