Check the thermal fuse and thermostats again to eliminate them as suspects. Both should be zero ohms at room temperature. If you eyed the entire duct system from lint filter to outside of the house for lint, then these are probably OK.

One thing that will shut down a dryer: a defective door switch. If you turn the timer on with the door shut and can hear or see it progressing (running) then the door switch is OK.

If your door switch is operating marginally, the heat can expand the body of the switch and open the circuit (and shut the dryer off until it cools). Check the switch with an ohmmeter with the dryer disconnected from power.

A loose spade terminal on this switch (or anywhere else) can do this too.

Also, a misaligned door or defective door clasp might do this after heating up.

Keep thinking 'heat expands' and you might find it.

The only other thing left is a defective timer.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

I have a Maytag Neptune

A lot of times, the bearings are worn on the drum rollers. These rollers are located inside the dryer, under the drum. Usually are two. I am not sure of your model number but I believe you can take the front of this dryer off to get to the rollers. Unplug the unit before you disassemble. You will also have to unwire the door switch (if you take the front off) Not the easiest job, but not too bad! Hope you can do it on your own.

Heater stopped working

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Sounds like your problem may be with the heating coil. Remove the back of the machine and try to
locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside the air duct you will find
the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistor. Once you have located the heating coil, remove
the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it
is faulty. If the heating coil is ok, then: You can check the thermostat/thermistor by removing
the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape. If the coil heats up then replace
the thermostat/thermistor. DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST. This could cause
a fire, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine. I will include these two web
sites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck, Hope this helps

My dryer has an intermittent squeal (like a belt

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
The second problem is probably the thermostats/thermistor
If you plan to try to repair the problem yourself, then the first thing you want to do is unplug the dryer from the electric.
Remove the back of the machine and try to locate the air tube going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside the air tube you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistor.
You can check the thermostat/thermistor by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape.
If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST. This could cause a fire, as you have removed the saftey of overheat from the machine.
Good Luck,
Hope this helps

and enter it there and you can look at a breakdown of the machine. What is it doing? Thermostats don't go out real often. Let me know if you need any more help.

Stopped tumbling

First make sure your belt is broken.
Take a putty knife or a old CD and insert it between the top and the front panel about 2 inches in from the sides where the top and front come together.
Push the clips towards the back of the machine while pulling up on the top.
Once it is open you can tell if the belt is broken or not.
It you see no belt around the drum it is broken.
If you see a belt around the drum pull on it carefully.
If it does not come loose it is not broken.
After you do this, let me know the result.
We will then move on to step #2.

Where is the pilot light on a Maytag dryer

what is the model number? free standing pilots have been gone for several years. Google your model number and include parts. This will give you sites that sell parts. You most likely have and hot surface ignitor.
