Is there a paper roll in it? I have seen them do this as the calculator is trying to feed the roll edge. You can turn printing off, but most need a roll in place. There is a repair video for a similar machine.

Fixing a problem with a laser unit depends on the specific issue you're facing. Here are general steps you can consider:1. **Inspect and Clean:** Examine the laser unit for any visible dust, debris, or obstructions. Use a can of compressed air to gently blow away any particles that might affect the laser's performance.2. **Check Connections:** Ensure all cables and connections related to the laser unit are secure. Loose connections can lead to malfunctions.3. **Calibration:** Some laser units may require calibration. Consult the device manual for instructions on how to perform calibration procedures. This often involves using specific calibration tools or software.4. **Replace Toner or Cartridge:** If print quality is an issue, consider replacing the toner cartridge. Low toner levels can affect the laser unit's performance.5. **Firmware Update:** Check if there are firmware updates available for the laser unit. Manufacturers may release updates to address performance issues or bugs.6. **Professional Service:**https://capcuttemp.net/rara-capcut-template/

There is a workaround that will work for many dos based programs.
It will remove several of the advanced feature from your printers functionality but may solve the problem.
Try this:
Open control panel, switch to classic view if not already in it. Open the Printers folder, then Right-Click on the Canon MF6540, select properties.
Once it opens the instruction may vary slightly for your printer but should roughly be:
1. Select the advanced tab, then click print processor, then select one of the RAW modes on the right and Ok twice to close the windows.
2. Try printing in the DOS program, if it fails, repeat step one and try the next option. If none of the RAW modes work, try the TEXT mode.
If none of these methods work you may need to emulate a LPT Port for the DOS program to Print to, forward it to the Printer and then repeat the above process. DOS programs are notoriously finicky about settings so you will likely have to try several settings to find one that matches.
If your first attempts fail and you need to emulate the LPT port get back to me by adding a comment to this post and I will see if I can find a good emulator to try for you. Or you can buy a router to connect the printer to that already has emulated LPT software such as the Linksys WRT610N. Sharing the printer through such a router creates a virual LPT port on your computer which may work.
