Reset Waste Ink Canon Pixma MP130

The waste ink take is actually just a felt pad that sits under the printer mechanism inside the case and absorbs the ink from your cleanings.
From what I gather, it’s both a time consuming and expensive proposition to take to Canon to fix.
And they won't tell people how to do it themselves.

Remember of course, you've got to cycle the cleaning process a huge amount of times to get this to occur.

But when it does, there is a fix-it-yourself solution that is both safe and effective for the printer, and free.
You have to be slightly mechanical to do this.
If you you've never used a screwdriver and are all thumbs, but give it a shot or give it to someone halfway coordinated to do this for you.

You may RESET the printer code first if you like or do it after you clean the pad

Here this step by step to resetting waste ink counter printer Canon Pixma MP130

1.You will include printer
2. Press button MENU, then SCAN, COPY and again SCAN - they entered
into the service regime
3. Select NVRAM ACCESS and further BY OK.
4. Select SET Abs- m level and advance value equal to zero
5. Select SET Abs- r level (if there is) and also you will establish into zero
6. You will turn off printer by button POWER.

I get the message that the waste ink absorber is

That is a shop repair to replace the ink absorber and reset the count, however it is not available for your printer. Canon would replace the entire printer during the warranty period, after that no parts or service is available.

Waste Ink Absorber is almost full

You don't have to change the waste ink absorber. There are two in the MP130 and they cost about $15 each. I have found though that you can just reset the counter and let the printer run without any problems. I have done this with three now with no problems. Reset procedure is:

1. Start Printer
2. Press button MENU, then SCAN, COPY and again SCAN – the printer will go into the service menu.
3. select NVRAM ACCESS and further BY OK.
4. select SET Abs- m level and reduce to zero.
5. select SET Abs- r level (if there is) and reduce to zero.
6. Turn off printer by button POWER.

Canon mp130 printer; readout says;

This runs of a counter and not off the actual amount if ink in the absorber, so re-setting it once or twice should be fine. Try this method below.I found this solution from another user on FixYa.
  1. Start with printer off
  2. Press and hold resume Button (triangle in the circle) and click "Power" button. Green led should be on
  3. While holding the Power button, release the Resume Button.
  4. Without releasing the Power Button, click "Resume" button for two times and release Both Buttons.
  5. Click "Resume" for four times then soon click "Power" button, to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber).
  6. Turn off the printer and turn on again
I hope this helps, If so please rate this response Thank you for supporting the Fix-Ya Community

INK ABSORBER FULL

If you absorber is full, you will have to replace it. You can either buy an absorber kit or have it replaced at a service center. A kit should be around $40 and to have it replaced including the kit should be around $100. It's up to you on how your want to handle it.
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a newer printer.

Problems with Canon PIXMA MP130

You can try this solution for the waste Ink Absorber:

Issue: ERROR LCD: WASTE INK NEAR FULL
Solution: Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

You can also follow this link to the MP130 page on canon's Web site: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=10442 to download a user guides, drivers, views specs, as well as receive support and service. To search Canon's knowledge base for a solution, you need to type "waste ink absorber" in the text box on the Support & Service tab. Click Search then click ERROR LCD: WASTE INK NEAR FULL. You will be given 4 possible solutions. The one that I provided above is #2.

You can also download the user guide (if this is a windows system, you will download the user guide from the Software & Service tab. Click that tab then select your operating system. Scroll down to the table labeled Guides and Manuals then scroll down to find the Pixma MP130 User's Guide and click on the (.exe) file name. The file is compressed and by running it on your system, the guide will be decompressed and installed.

Hopefully this solution assists you with the waste ink absorber issue as well as the other issues that you're experiencing with this printer.
