Either you have a power setting on that has the screen dimmed, or it's dimmed manually, or your laptop inverter is in the process of failing.
My laptop does'nt start on
Check the voltage on the battery and also on the adaptor and if faulty it must be replaced .It is also possible that PC is hanging up as there is fault on the OS ( operating system) or a virus in the OS. Also it is possible that the back up battery ( CMOS) has low voltage or the memory card is a suspect. In this case you need to check the voltage and also try and swap a memory card. Sometimes the memory card connections can be faulty either on the card or on the slot. Cleaning the slot and card must be done before you try a replacement. If the Pc boots and fails then the hard disc can have bad sectors or is corrupt. However if there is no result the motherboard also can be suspected. In this case you might need the help of proper tools and equipment support to do a chip level service.

Hi
To fix an unresponsive touchpad on your laptop, reactivate it by using the Function key on the keyboard and the Fn key.
This process is different for each computer manufacturer.
If unsure which Function key enables and disables the touchpad, try each one at a time and then
attempt to use the touchpad after each one.
A...Locate the "Fn" key of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key has different colored text or the key is a different color.
B...Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
C...Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key at the same time to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works. Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.
Note: Mac computers use "F2" to enable and disable the touchpad.

When turning my laptop on all I get is a black
Ufortunately there is no easy solution for this problem, the bios is password locked preventing window startup. Removing the main and the cmos battery will not work because it retains the information regardless how long the power has been removed. If you are the original owner you can contact IBM to have your password remove for a fee, the other possibility is to check out ebay sellers who offer this service, but be carefull some don't deliver as promised. The only other approach is change the motherboard or replace the eprom chip ( 8 pin ic )
When powering on the laptop,

Laptop when turned on display on screen "fan
When the laptop or PC is used, its processor and RAM gets heated. To keep it cool, a fan is used which circulates the air in the board. If there is no cooling system in the laptop, its circuit could be damaged by over heating. I think the fan in your laptop has malfunctioned or it is jammed by something. Turn over your laptop and try see if there is anything stuck in the blades of the fan. If there is anything, then take it out and then try to start your laptop.
If there is nothing, then there is high possibility that the fan has malfunctioned. It would be better if you take it to service centre to get it repaired.
Hope this helps you!!

This could be any number of issues, check the following:

Its possible that the fault is not the ubuntu or the pc doctor that you removed but just the heat. Try to clean all the dust from the vents with a can of pressed air or with a small vacuum if you can open the cover. After that try again and watch out when you work with it not to cover the vents because it overheats very fast.

Sorry to hear this. Try hitting F8 multiple times on bootup to get startup menu. choose - last known good configuration. If this does not work, try again only select safe mode. if this works - just concentrate on getting important files off. Otherwise, get your install CD - put in drive and reboot for clean install as you are likely spam and virus ridden. get antivirus on it right away. Good luck!
At first, sorry for my
On a T43 there is no way to enter the Bios without knowing or GUESSING the correct password this is true for all T4x laptops the only way I can suggest is to get a new motherboard from Newegg or from ebay or something but unless you have a specific reason for needing into the bios and you can run windows I would continue to do that until such a time should arise, and maybe keep trying to guess the correct password. Most people use password that have something to do with themselves so think about what you may have used. Also try to think back to the occasion that made you set the password and try to imagine you are reliving it, you'd be amazed at what you can remember from doing this.
Good Luck! hope the correct Password comes to you!
