Hi and welcome to Fixya, When installing the unit was the dtain hose by chance connected to a disposer/garberator ? If yes, then I'd start by checking the drain spout of the disposer where you connected the drain hose from the dishwasher and make sure you knocked out the plug in the spout. **Turn off the power or unplug the disposer/garberator before performing any service** If the plug is not punched out, with the aid of a long screw driver and a hammer, or a firm smack with the palm of your hand you should be able to knock out the plug. Now reach in the disposer and remove the plug you`ve just knocked out, reconnect the drain hose for your dishwasher and you should be good to go. Let me know what you find and how it goes. Have you recently installed a garbage disposal? If so, you probably didn't knock out the plug where the drain hose from the dishwasher attaches to. Just disconnect the hose from the garbage disposal, use a punch or screwdriver and tap it out with a hammer. (Don't forget to remove the plug from the grinder area) Then reconnect the hose.

Have you recently installed a garbage disposal?? If so, your problem is most definately the plug where you attach the dishwasher hose to it. Before you attach the hose, there is a little plug in there that you have to knock out. Just disconnect the hose, stick a screwdriver or punch in there and tap it with a hammer. (Don't forget to remove that little metal plug from the grinder area) Then reattach the hose. Problem fixed!

Check the pump motor for obstructions like: broken glass, paper from labels, food. Also some maytags have a cover screen... check that it is not filled with debris (****)... How old is the unit?
