the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions even something as small as an electrical fan and its lead can cause this problem or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electrical power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

My computer turns on but nothing responds

Most likely your motherboard was DOA. Send it back for a replacement. Sounds like you've done all the troubleshooting stuff.....do double check the power supply connector...especially the P4 connector that I have occasionally forgotten to plug in...that will also cause the symptoms you describe.

Newbie query

well first about the cd/dvd. it debends on the connector, if the connector is wide with 40 pins this means its a IDE. so you would connect it with a IDE cable to a ide connector on the motherboard, and by the way there can be two devices on a IDE cable, the other has to be set to master and the other to slave.

6274cd0.jpg
See the small 6 pins next to the cable, there you should also see a small plastic jumper with a metal inside, you need to change this jumper so its either on slave or master, only one slave or master can be present so check the other device also.

The cd / dvd may also be a smaller SATA drive and in that case you simply need to plugit into a small exactly same type of connector on the motherboard.

about the front panel

the connector should be like this
6d4fe9d.jpg
simply attach them to the correct slots

Heres a image, note that his is not your motherboard and they might be difrent.

Flash Disk goes bad

Did you assemble the board yourself into the case? check to make sure your front panel USB connections are installed onto your motherboard in the correct order. Refer to your Motherboard Manual. If they are not, they can fry your usb devices rendering them inoperable on your pc or others. I have seen this before because of improper installation of front pannel USB connections. Good Luck

How long does the Intel i7-930 processor expected to last?

The best way to prolong life of a computer is to blow out dust from the case and cooling fins and power supply regularly, at least every year. That prevents overheating - a primary cause of component failure. Do not overclock. Do periodic full disk backups and intermediate new file ones. Leapfrog between two external disks. They are cheap. Protect them from fire. Laptops - same story,, do not block cooling holes by putting on a blanket while lounging. And turn off machine before blowing out dust. Do not use full PSI compressor air! maybe 20 PSI...
