Tried to setup new hard drive and it froze...help
you need to set the drive, scan it frome windows, or look at the device managment, disk managment located under administrative tools, your new hard drive should be listed there as unhealty or unformated, format it and it should work fine.
My mac can't read it. I don't have access to my
Was it previously used on a Windows Machine, If you are using an older version of OSX they have problems reading from media formatted under fat/fat32/ntfs but newer models/os's can read NTFS.
Repeated Sudden Device removal
Me too, i bought a LaCie BigDiskExtreme+ (1tb) and it keeps giving me Device removal error. I'm running Mac OSX Leopard. Worked for 5 minutes, now everytime it turn it on it goes away and comes back up, always giving me the error message. Any advice ?
Hard Drive does not show up on desktop
One or more of the hints below will probably sort out most USB problems with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)
A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.
1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability
2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)
3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.
4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.
5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port
6. For FLASH DRIVES you should ensure that the device is set for "quick removal" using the drive control panel properties or use the USB "Safely Remove Hardware" option. If you dont do this there is a very strong chance that any files you transfer may not be there when you plug into another computer.
7. It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.
You should also do this to cheack the drives connections are not bad inside the enclosure.
8. If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.
9. If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further
SPECIAL NOTES
USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.
USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.
Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.
Known as "The Click Of Death"
My LaCie was working great and suddenly I can't
I have recently completely recoverd two lost partitions using Paragon Partition Manager 10.0. I was very impressed with the program. The option find lost partitions is under Partitons - Advanced.
Lacie desktop hard disk problem
The strange sounds you are hearing are the mechanical parts in the hard drive hitting the platters in the hard drive.
I would take it to a local repair center to see if they can recover any data. I wouldn’t mess with it too much as the hard drive runs the chances of a successful data recovery are decreased

Heats up and stalls
this could be for several reasons.
1. internal cooling fan fault
2. the hard disk is having issues
3. not enought ventilation.
swap another hard disk to see if its the hard diak that has the issue.
Lacie sounds like its working , but i can't find the icon on computer
Your hard dive is probably not formatted. You can check if your external hard drive is detected by the BIOS during bootup. You can also check this by Right click on taskbar > properties > startmenu > customize > advanced > scroll down completely and select system administration tools "Display on the all programs menu" > ok. Click on start > all programs > administrative tools > computer management > double click on storage. click on disk management(local) here you should see your lacie. If you dont then the drive is probably not detected. If you see, you can just partition it from here and it will appear in your my computer.
I need to know how to do a factory reset on a lacie 4Big Quadra enterprise.
- Disconnect all cables from the device.
- Press and hold the "reset" button (located on the rear panel) for about 10 seconds.
- Wait for the device to restart and initialize. This may take several minutes.
- Reconnect the cables to the device and try accessing it again.
Note: It's recommended to backup all data stored on the device before performing a factory reset, as all data will be lost during the reset process.
My LaCie external drive isn't getting power
U should test for power at the connector that goes into the lacie with a voltmeter to make sure power supply and its wire are OK. If no voltmeter then use a automobile brake or turn signal bulb to see if it has power.
