LaCie 1 TB Hard drive won't boot

I lave lots and lots of experience with LaCie Drives (I have 6 of the 2TB models). Every, every, every time a drive fails or runs slowly, it is the power supply. I have now replaced 5. They run very hot (so does the drive), and fail pretty often. It looks like the voltage drops just a smidge, and access times seem to increase, i.e., the drive "runs slow". Then it won't boot at all, and the blue light keeps blinking. Fortunately LaCie has replacement power supplies in the store. Buy a couple extra. I am married to the LaCie drives now, or I would probably switch brands. I kind of guess that they know about this because I contacted the help desk, and he wasn't surprised. Maxtor has a nice drive, and the Calvary drive is $150 cheaper. A drive is a drive I guess. By the way, if anyone is listening, how about building a QUIET, COOL drive with and INTERNAL POWER SUPPLY? GOT IT? All the cords and power supply bricks make me crazy. It might be nice to see a stackable drive where the top of one drive mates to the bottom of another, carrying network info as well as power to the drive above. Hint, hint. We all are building systems with ungodly amounts of storage. Too bad the manufacturers aren't building drives with the durability we need.

Lacie hard drive won't turn on

My 1TB Lacie suddenly won't power up (no sound, no blue light). It turned out that I might have worn out the on/off switch over the seldom-use 4 years of usage. I push and flip the switch multiple times, and the Lacie came back to live and mount normally. I will just leave it at the On setting and simply pull the power cord when i want to switch it off.Obviously, Lacie failed to do QA on the on/off switch because my 4 years usage did not totalled to more than 10 on/off per month.

Lacie 250 gig HD will

the power regulator inside the external enclosure is probably dead the drive itself may still be intact, you can remove the dribe from the enclosure and run it as an internal drive if you have any free ports or you can buy a new enclosure for it and it should run fine.

My LaCie 250 GB external hard drive is plugged in

Unfortunately hard drives are a pain when they have problems.

First try a different USB port to make sure that there is a problem with the port.

With my experience on broking external hard drives, I am guessing that your HDD motor is not spinning.

Some things you can try for this (should be done with an experienced individual)
- Take the HDD out of the case and place it in another external case (easily found at Best Buy or online (I buy mine from Milwaukee PC)). This solution has helped me in the past.
- If the drive is failing to initialize you just may have to replace it. If you want your files to be recovered you can send the drive in to repair shops and they can try to recover the files BUT this is NOT cheap.
- Simply buy a new external, they are pretty cheap these days (especially 250gb).

Hope this helps :)

Lacie 80GB

Is this a USB based HDD? It may not be getting enough power.
I have a LaCie 100GB HDD that has 2 USB connectors. One is for data and yes, the other is for power. The 2nd connector is needed because some USB ports do not provide enough power by themselves. I have to use both connectors when I plug my drive into a USB 1.1 port. USB 2.0 ports seem to have enough power.

Try connecting your drive into a USB 2.0 port. If you have 2 connectors, try plugging both in. If this doesn't work you may need a replacement power supply or you may need to replace the HDD.

Lacie mobile drive 120 gb

I'd power it on and gently put it against my ear to sense if it's even spinning. If it's spinning, powerdown the computer, disconnect the drive and try it in someone else's computer. Let me know what happens. If it is not spinning, could either be an electronic error within the enclosure or the drive has received a static shock. If it was me, I'd remove the drive from the enclosure and put it into a different enclosure for 2.5" drives. It's only a normal laptop drive inside. I'd be interested in what you find out. I need to know how to do a factory reset on a lacie 4Big Quadra enterprise.

  1. Disconnect all cables from the device.
  2. Press and hold the "reset" button (located on the rear panel) for about 10 seconds.
  3. Wait for the device to restart and initialize. This may take several minutes.
  4. Reconnect the cables to the device and try accessing it again.
Note: It's recommended to backup all data stored on the device before performing a factory reset, as all data will be lost during the reset process.

Depending on your OS, use your disc utility and see if it has been initialised or not. If not initialise it and then you can format and use it as normal.

My LaCie external drive isn't getting power

U should test for power at the connector that goes into the lacie with a voltmeter to make sure power supply and its wire are OK. If no voltmeter then use a automobile brake or turn signal bulb to see if it has power.

Just an idea. When you set pass words or any important information write all information in a note book and keep it in a drawer someplace where you will not lose it. When things change write the new ones down and cross out the old ones. I save a lot of head aches that way.

Hello, I have a LaCie D2 525 Super Writemaster. Stopped reading CD, slowly flashing it'sLED. No image on desktop. Eject button doesn't react and paperclip insertion activates eject but tray is stuck.

Pushing in the paperclip should unlock it, but if still jammed, may have to wreck drive by pulling off front of drive drawer thing. Maybe try putty knife to push cd down some of that's holding it from opening.

I have a Lacie external drive when the power plug connection on the circuit board broke off. Can the circuit board be repaired or replaced?

Replace perhaps, but repair is most difficult. The electronics are miniature and it takes special tools to do repairs.

Can I remove the disc from a LaCie 300770 250 GB drive and try it in another drive? The drive is not working, so I hope the disc is ok.

Two ways this can go. If you are talking about the entire hard drive pulling it out and plugging the whole drive into another pc. Then you're fine If you are talking about disassembling the hard drive and moving the disks inside. This is not something you can do. This is what you will need. 1) a certified clean room surgical grade 2) tape 3) A matching drive/ hd board down to revision number 4) presision screw tools. 5) patience. Or you will need to contact a professional data recover company.
