Lexmark E342n Laser Printer - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Thanks in advance. Our E342n Lexmark printer stops
It's a possible worn out pick tires, bad pick arm or fuser issue. For the pick tires, you can use the other side of the tires by removing it flipping it. To remove the pick tires, refer to the guide below:
If it's the pick arm or the fuser, it calls for a replacement. But I hope that the pick tires would resolve the problem. If you need more assistance, just leave a comment so I can get back to it.
Lexmark E 342 n paper jam with error code 201
According to the LexMark support page, this is most often related to not getting the print cartridge assembly properly positioned. (Left and right sides not fully in place). Another possible source is paper in the output tray when using the double sided printing feature. (This leads to grabbing an extra sheet when it tries to retrieve the paper to print the second side. Paper stock thickness will change the number of pages printed before this happens.).
I hope this helps.
It says replace photocon, what is that ?
That is an organic drum that the laser writes to, and which transfers the toner to the paper. After a given number of prints, these need to be replaced, as they get scratched and worn out.
Unless you are having problems with the printer, (or this particular model locks down the printer), you can continue to use it as is. The only problem you will notice is that your print quality is going to start to degrade; eventually getting lines and/or a grey shading in the background of your prints.
You should be able to purchase a Photoconductor kit through whomever you normally buy your toner from, or from a local dealer that sells Lexmark printers. They can also be purchased online and many different locations.

LEXMARK E342n
The soution given is misleading, the Lexmark printers use a Photoconductive drum (photoconductor) or often abbreviated to PC.
They obey standard EP image formation process, as such the drum is charged by the charge roller, the charge is dissipated by the laser (striking the PC), toner is attracted to the PC where the charge is lost and the transferred to the media by the transfer roller. Standard 6 stage EP formation process
The reason the laser does not strike the paper directly to reduce charge, where is the charge going to go ? With the PC the charge tunnels vertifcally to the aluminium core, paper is an insulator so the process cannot work.
Anyway, when replacing the PC in the E342 you need to reset the PC counter.
Power the printer off
Hold the DIamond shaped button (return) and power on
release the button when "Performing self test" is displayed
Select "Reset PC count" and press Select, the counter will Zero.
If this does not work
Power up while holding Return button but have the front access cover open
Close the cover once "!" displays, you can print the menus by holding the select button then until they print out.
Clearing message after "replace photoconductor kit" message came on
To reset the photoconductor page count:
- Turn off the printer.
- While the printer is off, press and hold the Select () and Return () buttons on the operator panel.
- While keeping both buttons held down, turn the printer back on.
Keep holding down both buttons until the printer screen displays Performing Self Test or CONFIG MENU.
- Release the buttons when you see either of these messages.
- If Reset PC Cnt does not then appear on the screen, press the left or right menu button until it does.
- Press the Select button once. The message Resetting PC Cnt Value should briefly appear on the screen, indicating that the photoconductor page count has been reset.
- When the display shows CONFIG MENU again, power off the printer.
- Wait five or more seconds and then power the printer back on. NOTE: Do not hold any buttons down when powering on the printer during this step.
The photoconductor page count should now be reset. At this point, it is recommended that you print a menu settings page to confirm this. Do the following:
- With the printer at the Ready status, press the left or right Menu button until UTILITIES MENU appears on the screen.
- With UTILITIES MENU on the screen, press the Select button once. A new menu should appear.
- If Print Menus is not displayed on the second line of the screen, press the left or right menu button until Print Menus appears.
- Press the Select button once. The message Printing Menu Settings should appear on the screen and the printer will print out one to three pages of printer settings.
- Look for a heading labeled Cartridge Information on one of the menu settings pages.
- Under Cartridge Information, look for the word Photoconductor. Confirm that the level of the photoconductor says OK or is close to 100%.
- If the photoconductor is still reading low, try printing 10 - 20 more pages.
- Print the menu settings page(s) once more. Confirm that the photoconductor level is now at OK or close to 100%.
- If the photoconductor continues to give a low reading, repeat this
entire procedure again from the beginning to reset the counter once
more.
- If the photoconductor reading is still low after two attempts to reset the counter, the printer may require service.
Why does the data light blink then paper jam light goes on even with no paper in it
Most likely when you removed the paper jam a small piece of paper got jammed under one of the sensors. This is a very common problem. It is also possible depending on the model that you have dislodged one of the flags that activates sensors for paper travel. Check the back of the printer in the fuser area as these are the most commonly damaged sensors.
