My computer can't detect my friend's headset
A lot depends on two things
How they connect, Bluetooth or wired.
The sound card in the computer.
If Bluetooth, it has to be paired. If wired it has to be in the correct socket and they are seldom marked.
Some sound cards are not Duplex, in other words they can only listen or transmit, not both. There are also Sound Mixer controls in Settings, and one of them is a box that has a check mark for MUTE. You can usually get to these settings from the icons down in the Systray by the clock.

Hi, I am having Windows 8 laptop, 1st time I
I set the headset to be the default audio device for the computer. I can use Skype fine and can hear iHeart Radio. However, I can't hear my Camtasia recording and don't even know if the microphone is working with it. I also can't hear the Camtasia tutorials or videos on YouTube.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using the trial version and want to make sure I can use the program before I buy it. by Video Recording Mobiles Video Recording Mobiles Tablets

My mic is not working on my laotop, vista home premium
you do not need to uninstall any driver..i had the same problem and i just bought a new headset wid a mic so here's what probably your problem is...especially those who can't seem to uninstall their driver..
1. right click on the speaker icon and go to recording devices
2. select any of the microphones in the list
3. click on properties
4. go to the levels tab
5. unmute your microphone and voila..microphone works :)

The computer doesn't appear to
The computer is most likely not setup properly to use the port you are trying to use for audio input. Click Start, go to Control Panel and then Sound settings. In here click the Advanced button. If you do not see one, double click the speaker icon by your clock in the lower left hand corner of your Windows screen. In the volume control settings click Options and then Properties. Click the Recording radio button/selection and make sure that either the "mic" or "line in" option is selected as the recording device depending on where you have your headset plugged info.
