How do I check L1 message waiting
I had the same issue on my RCA 25255re2 and worked with customer service at RCA. They had me hold down the delete button for 5 seconds, release the delete button, then press delete one more time. That cleared the phantom L1 message waiting issue we were having at my office
HOW TO USE THE CALL FORWARDING
- Dial *72 (or 1172 on rotary phones).
- Listen for three beeps followed by dial tone.
- Dial the phone number to which your calls are to be forwarded.
- If there's an answer at the number you are forwarding to: Make sure you keep the line open for at least 5 seconds to activate the service.

Keypad lock To lock the cordless handset?s keypad: Press and hold [*] button for 2 seconds until you hear a beep tone, when the keypad lock is activated, shows on the display. To unlock the keypad: Press and hold [*] button for 2 seconds until you hear a beep tone. Or simply replace the handset on the charger cradle.
I'd put it back on the charger and see if that unlocks it.
