Sound like weak lazer if so drive needs to be replaced.good luck!

My samsung dvd writer is
make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver,roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall hope this helps

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
Upper Filters
Lower Filters
Upper Filters.bak
Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose DeleteAfter deleting the keys, close the registry editorReboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

what kind of CD/DVD-ROM are you using? Sometimes the CD are protected and cannot be played with every ROM. and also try playing another CD/DVD to study if it would do the same.About opening the CD/DVD-ROM if it is still not opening get an office-pin and push it into the small visible hole on the CD/DVD-ROM

Either something is wrong with the physical open/close sensors, or there is a computer-virus on your computer that is intentionally causing the open/close actions.

My samsung octo edge cd-rw/dvd-rom combo drive
If you do not have a disk with drivers go to the manufacturers web site and look for support or downloads to get the divers. save them to a folder you create on the c drive or go the driversone.com and put the info of your drive in and it will direct you to drivers then save them to the folder. Next you go to system icon in contol panel and then to hardware then device manager. look for cd/dvd drives and choose your drive then right click on it either disable it or reinstall the driver. If this helps please reply as this helps me continue to answer questions here and good luck

To use "Burn DVD video files" in Nero, you have to switch on Advanced mode instead of standard.
In my version, this is what the bottom right corner of Nero StartSmart Essentials looks like in the two modes.

Im using samsung octa edge dvd writer...now my dvd
do it only if u r a professional..
open it up, with the lens assembly there is a small preset, turn it
using a screw driver a little anti-clockwise..clean the lens with clean
cotton using isopropyl alcohol..
if not done, replace the lens assembly..
or else, replace the drive with a standby n see..
i gotta know: is ur drive pata/sata and the device make n model..
assuming that ur drive is pata, n u r a professional n aware of bios/cmos setup utility handling..!!
open
up ur system cabinet and see if all the data cables n jumper settings
at the back of the drives (master/slave selection)..itz most
important..!!
however, at the bootup (0.29sec) start pressing
briskly the key to enter cmos utility or bios setup (eg. F1/F2/F10/Del
as applicable)..glance in the standard settings if r detected
individually..change the 'Mode' if m/b is hybrid type(both SATA+PATA) :
Native/Compatible/Enhanced (as applicable)..
see if ur device needs any additional driver or not, if so try downloading..
also try checking itz data cable for loose or faulty..
above all explanation is applicable only if itz not being detected by the m/b or system..(not for reading or writing problem)..
contact ur system admin/vendor....

Samsung dvd rw with octo edge dvd rom says burning
I will presume that you do not have a combo DVD.
If you have a "combo" drive, it doesn't burn any DVDs.
First, has the burner ever burned dual-layer DVD's successfully?
Radio Shack has a laser cleaner ($13). Read & follow the directions. It is an audio CD with a row of brushes. No chemicals involved.
Recommendation:
Use Verbatim DVD's, they are the best. Samsung is also a top brand.

Can TS-H492B burn Dual Layer DVD's?
Specs from Dell WebsiteAccording to the Specs it should be able to burn DL+R, but not DL-R. Nero Express should work if it's a recent version that supports your model. An updated Nero version will have more support for different models of burners, but another great free software that can do almost as much as, if not more, than Nero Express is CD Burner XP, which is freeware and can be downloaded directly from their website
