There's a loud humming noise coming from the back

This sounds like the color wheel is going bad. See link (attached) for more details.

Samsung Color Wheel

Let me know if this helps.

My Samsung tv is sorta the same

It sounds like a surge or brown out did some damage to the board, and the tv is not aligning the colors properly, possibly due to a bad relay. If you are not comfortable with repairs like this, have someone check the capacitators and resistors for visible damage. It will cost far less to have it repaired now than to tinker with it with the power on and damage more components and repair it later.

Will not start even after lamp replaced

The first thing to check is the lamp door. There is an interlock there wwhich prevents the set from functioning if the door is open. It is easy to misalign the dorr enough to prevent the interlock from closing properly. This will mimic a bad lamp situation. Reseat all access doors and update this with the results. It is also possible that the ballast is defective rather than the lamp. The ballast is the circuit that "fires" the lamp.

I have HL-R6167W HDTV TV

replace the cables.before replacing check if the cables are connected properly or not.if any of the external cables are got loose it will flicker due to loose connection.
but if replacing the cable does not helps or if the cables are absolutely new then this flickering problem is due to two things
1_bad digital board or weak digital board.
2) or bad or weak light engine.
if any of this is faulty you get same faulty sympotms.it has to be checked before replacing.
you can get required parts from
if you are not familiar with doing this you can get it done by local tv repair technician familiar with this model tv.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

Samsung Model HLR6167W

Does the TV appear to be cycling on and off, like its attempting to boot up? Or, does it just not come on at all? Don't miss the lamp door interlock switch. Many Samsung DLPs have tempermental door switches. Try re-installing the door or manually hold the switch in the closed postion and try to power it up. If the lamp comes on and stays lit, you've found your problem.

My Samsung 50

Check the bulb to see if it is blown if you had the TV more than 3 years It's best to change it. Even if it does not look blown it still can be no good.

I have 61

98% CHANCE you have a color wheel going bad--fan like or grinding noise.

This model may use 2 different wheels--label on far right side and or back will have full model and version number.

If the wheel shatters--which it can, turning at over 14,000 rpm the set will shut off.

Once we id the full model number I can get you a part number---lots of places on the internet sell these for 90-130 dollars.

Replacement is not real hard--takes about 40 minutes--and there are many places on the internet that have written and VIDEO instructions for doing this.

Shops are going to charge 300 or more parts and labor for this.....

Get me full model number and version and I will try to get you the correct part number.

If this information helps you, rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Do I have a bad dmd board?

Hi Dave I am Vortash if you replaced the Colour wheel and the problem went but then has returned I think it may just be a bad connection on the board check the ribbons from the lcds are secure and the plug slide that holds them in is all the way closed , also check the rest of the circuit for dry joints , I dont think this is as bad as you fear .. Regards Vortash

Problem with HL-R6167W green vertical lines

You need to do an aggressive reset on the TV. This solved problem completely for me. You must unplug the TV when it is on. Repeat this several times until the TV is jolted back into the factory default settings. The issue is actually with the programming I believe. The clue was that the display worked 100% perfect in HDMI mode, and the problem only existed in the cable setting, no matter if wires were attached or not.

Again, do an aggressive reset to the TV by unplugging it several times while it is on. It may not register the reset at first because after all, the actual problem is a programming issue and it's having trouble recognizing commands in the first place.

Good luck!!

Samsung DLP HL-R6167W - works fine for about 5

There are three possible parts causing the problem. First, the Main or Digital bd is bad, Second, the DMD bd is bad. Third the Color Wheel is bad. You need a trained Samsung tech to have a look at it.

Same problem

You have two options only. One is to pay a trained Samsung tech to replace the DMD bd which takes a Tech to properly align the DMD bd and takes some time or you can replace the entire Engine which is more expensive but quicker and easier. Wish had good news for you.

The TV has a black spot on the screen, apparently a pixel loss.

Your symptoms sounds like a one of the mirrors on your imaging chip is not working.

There is not a lot you can do about the pixel being out unless you want to replace the imager circuit board. These are expensive to replace.

As far as more showing up in the future, it is hard to say, you may not get anymore failing

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
