TOSHIBA A 55 S 1063

Hello! Is your Windows a genuine one? If it is, try to enter Windows in Safe Mode (press F8 after BIOS POST), and select Safe Mode. If all runs well, may be a software issue. Did you install any software prior to that problem?

A friend gave me a toshiba satelits A55-S1063...I can not get it to open..Where can I get the recovery disk for it????

Toshiba is a popular name in the world of technology, and the printers, servers, desktops and notebooks the company makes are widely used in both homes and offices. While most of the time these Toshiba laptops will run without problems, there are times when laptop owners will need to take their computers back to factory new condition. In order to restore your notebook you will first need to get a copy of the recovery disk. Turn the laptop over and locate the serial number label. The serial number label should be located on the bottom of the case. Open up the laptop and look for the model number. The model number should be located along the top of the keyboard. If the model number is not listed there, look for a model number label on the bottom of the case. Call Toshiba tech support at (800) 457-7777 to order the recovery CD. When calling, you will need to supply the representative with the serial number of your unit. You will also need a credit or debit card to cover the cost of shipping. http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/Drivers-and-Utilities/Restore-disk/m-p/49692 Hope this helps.

Lost password for toshiba L355-S7827

So this is asking for a password at boot up?? Sounds like the Admin/System password is enabled.Try this:
  1. As the computer is booting press F1, F2, or Del to enter CMOS setup.
  2. In CMOS setup when prompted for a password, guess three times until you're giving the code. If after entering the wrong password three times the computer is displaying a 5 to 8 code, as shown in the picture, continue to the next step.
  3. Write down the code and visit Dogbert's BIOS Password Backdoors scripts page to download Python and the free Python scripts to clear many of these types of passwords.

If you have cleaned/deleted some files and your laptop does not boot up then some important system files may have been deleted. You most likely need to install Windows again to get a working computer.

On screen keyboard is on

Close it then! if you mean it opens when the pc starts then you need to check if for some reason the option has been selected, first of all click start, all programs, startup have a look if the on-screen keyboard shortcut is there, if so right click and delete. next with the on screen keyboard open, look for an "options" im using windows 7 and I see it as a button on the lower right of the keyboard, other os's may vary, in options should be an option to control whether it starts with a log on or not. in fact on Win7 its an underlined blue link.

It's buried (underneath the motherboard on the left-rear corner) and you gotta gut the entire thing to get to it and it's A LOTTA WORK! It's a rechargeable Lithium ION - the same as the ones used in the Tecra M3's, Satellite A40 and A45 series. If that's the only problem then it's probably not worth the while (and cost) to operate on it - I know I wouldn't do it if it was mine. May I suggest using some software such as "Atomic Clock Sync" and either set it to run manually or automatically under Windows? See if that's feasible...

I can't get my Toshiba

When installing from a recovery disc it should not need to authenticate. You can do it manually. You didn't provide your operating system so I can't give exact instructions but in general, when it asks you to authenticate you can let it try online. If that fails you can call the phone number provided.

For Vista left click my computer, then properties, then scroll down to activation and click activate.

For XP click start/ all programs/ accessories/ system tools/ activate windows.

Then just enter you keycode.

My lcd screen flickers and

Glad to HELP YOU!

I'd say it's a problem with your VIDEO CARD.
The video card could have a break or a short that could result in a poor/bad signal being sent to your display. The extra load on it (in sending information to the monitor) could have been generated a malfunction of the card.

Try to make up-to-date the driver if possible. To do so connect to your machine another monitor (through cable, of course) and see if you can have "image" there. If yes, then go for the update!
To do so go
right-click on MY COMPUTER > PROPERTIES > HARDWARE > DEVICE MANAGER
and there select VIDEO CARD (or whatever is called) from the list of devices.
Right-click on VIDEO CARD > PROPERTIES > UPDATE DRIVER
After the update was done REBOOT.

I have a virus, I

Sounds like the virus might have wiped out your MBR. If you have your XP install disk, put it in the cd/dvd and go to the recovery console
1. First, restart your computer with the Windows XP setup disk in the CD drive. If you don't have your original disk, borrow one or download a ISO image from a torrent site.

2. When prompted, boot from the CD drive by pressing any key. If Windows loads automatically, you will first have to enter the BIOS setup and change the order of the boot devices to start with the CD drive.

3. Once the setup loads, you will see the option to press R to repair a Windows installation.

4. Once the Recovery Console loads up, you will have to type in a number that corresponds to your Windows installation. This is normally just 1. Press Enter and then type in the Administrator password.

5. Now at the prompt, type in fixmbr. Your damaged MBR will now be replaced with a new master boot record and your computer should now be able to boot properly. Note that you may also want to run the fixboot command to repair the boot sector with a new one.

Also, make sure you only use these commands on a system with one operating system installed. If you have more than one operating system installed, fixmbr and fixboot could mess up everything.

You can also download Hiren's boot CD and burn a live cd that will fix most anything for free. If you have problems an need more help you can email me at:
[email protected]
Just put MBR in the subject field
Good luck
