I have toshiba l645 and
The screen of the laptop is black because the tv is set as default screen. To move between different monitor settings press Fn and F4 - until the image returns to the laptop's screen.
Once you have done that you will have to properly set up the 2 monitors from your setup. For that follow this
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-031040.htmAnd make sure that the resolution selected for the tv is one that the tv can support - in your first attempt it has been too great.

Blue Vertical Line
It is sounding like when the laptop is turned on and heats up a bit, the line appears? Sounds like one of the panels is going bad or atleast has developed a problem.
below are some tricks you can try to lessen the annoyance of the line.
Dual-Scan STN displays are composed of 2 panels behind a single protective
panel or screen. Because you are looking through the protective screen the
display appears to be one large panel even though it is not. There is
a physical separation line (gap) at the point where the two panels meet.
When the computer is on and being viewed it is not unusual to see the
visible separation line with the Dual-Scan STN displays. The line, actually
the fine gap between the display panels, appears because the color and light
pixels cannot run along the very outside edges of the panels. This line
(gap) between the panels can be seen as a fine gray line and is most
noticeable when viewing on a screen with a white or light background.
Note the line may not be as noticeable when the screen is displaying certain
colors or darker backgrounds.
SUGGESTIONS:
It is not possible to completely eliminate the line but there are some
things you can try to reduce it's visibility.
1) Lower the display brightness/contrast. The brighter the backlight the
more noticeable the line.
2) Use Wallpapers and Screen savers that use darker colors.
3) In the Control Panel/Display applet under appearance try different
combinations of color schemes for your Window and Background choice
Let me know what happens.
Good Luck,
Tim

Shutdown
Hmm, could be an overheating problem.
Do you have any temperature monitoring software on your laptop you could use to check the cpu temperature while watching streaming video?
If not try downloading and installing this.

Memory chip set.
If you have overheated the computer you may have already done your damage to the mainboard. It may be time to replace the main board if it has been overheated. The CPU could have been overheated and damaged.

Toshiba p35-s609 laptop
Sounds like you have diagnosed your own problem to me. Its not the video card or you wouldn't be able to use the monitor, so it has to be a bad switch. If you can remove the bezel covering the switch you my be able to spray some contact cleaner into the switch and get it working again. Removal of most bezels starts with removing the screws on the back side of the lid hinges and lifting the bezell until it un-snaps from the housing.
Good luck. let us know how you make out.

Laptop restarting
Although it could be the hard drive, it could be any number of things as well. First, when the computer starts up, press the F8 key to bring up some options. Select disable automatic restart. This should allow the computer to stop at a blue screen so we can get some information from it. Do this and report back what that information says and we'll go from there. Thanks.

Japanese Visa Application with COE denied. Why?
How to Get Employment Security With Correct Japan Work Visa Japan is no different from other developing nations whereby grass seems greener on its side of the pasture. It attracts its fair share of foreign businesses as well as nationals seeking to work within its lands. Albeit many adhere to immigration procedures, some choose to test their limits on the basis of ignorance or defiance. By understanding the different types of work visa in Japan, it assures its foreign workers a continual stream of income with no threat of arrest and deportation. Visa simply infers the status of residence. Citizens obviously have no need of it as they automatically satisfy qualifications to freely reside in their country of birth. As for those of alien status who wish to join the local workforce, there should be a category to match one's requirement. Since most countries strive to improve the overall quality of life, professionals are generally welcomed to contribute knowledge and skill. Unskilled labor is normally not granted a visa to avoid flooding and dilution of the workforce. The visa is awarded in accordance to one's area of expertise. Supported with proof of relevant experience, it is based on the field of involvement whilst working in the country. In the event one's work scope changes from one expertise to another, it is essential to apply for a visa under the new circumstances. Different types of work visa in Japan also apply to foreign companies seeking to conduct local business. Domestic companies based abroad wishing to set up a local point of presence need to provide supporting documents to justify internal transfer of foreign workers. Governmental staff for diplomatic duties is assigned a category for legal residence. Over and above the general groupings, designated activities also garner approval from the authorities. Domestic service for non-native residents and citizens of certain nations on working holidays fall into this category of working visa. This, by no means, is the end of the list as it is best to consult the authorities on which visa serves best.Click Here For More Details: http://japanjobandvisaservice.com/blog/change-your-luck-when-apply-work-visa
