I can`t use an external
The M55 series does not output to external VGA automatically. You can either go into Setup (press F2 when computer is starting) or use FN F5 in Windows to toggle between LCD, monitor, or simultaneous output.
The monitor port should be standard, so as long as the plug on your monitor doesn't have any bent pins, it should work.

Screen look red on start up. Back light appears to
Hello,
the problem is from your screen bulb or inverter. The screen bulb is either dead or the screen inverter is faulty.
But I suspect the problem is from the screen bulb.
I would advice that you it to a tech so that the problem can be fixed or look into it yourself if you have the ability.
Take care.

Turns off suddenly
Hi guest, if your computer turns off suddenly, try these steps:
Turn off your pc, remove the cables on the battery, remove the battery on the pc. Then push the power button for 5 seconds and then reinsert the battery and the cables. Then turn off the pc.
If symptoms persist , please call your technical support of the brand you brought for possible repair.

Turns off suddenly
Laptop turns off suddenly? Computers may not be smarter than people, but if
they’re designed properly, they will shut themselves down before
overheating to the extent that they do themselves damage.
If the smart
person keeps turning the notebook back on and figures out a way to foil
the protection, the laptop is probably doomed.
Once a laptop shuts down
for thermal event protection, it may refuse to power back up for a fixed
period of time, five or ten minutes, or it may begin to boot and shut
down immediately as soon as it boots to the point that it can figure out
that its too hot.
The over-temperature protection is generally a BIOS
rather than an operating system function, so one sign of an overheated
laptop is one that shuts itself down while you’re using it and then
refuses to boot as far as the operating system unless you leave it alone
for an hour or so to cool down.
Unless you’ve been working in a very
unfriendly environment, high temperatures, direct sunlight, etc, you
should take even a single overheating shutdown as a warning to back up
your data at the first opportunity and to give the cooling system a
serious cleaning.

Which memory cards fit Toshiba satellite M55-S331?
Hi,
Here is the RAM specs for your notebook:
Installed size: 512Mb / 2Gb max
Technology: DDR SDRAM 333MHz, PC2700
According to this specs you can reach 2Gb max so you won't have problems with 1Gb... just be sure you use the same technology
cheers
