Archos AV 500 Digital Media Player Questions & Answers
I recently purchased a av700e
It very well IS the battery if your power cord was sending (EX: 2.8Amps, while the battery is rated for only 1.8Amps) This would cause the battery to be overloaded and fry. On the pocketdish nearest the plug-in there may be a power rating (EX: 12v 1.8A). Check there, or I can locate the power needs for the device.
Let me know if you need anything else :)
Archos 5 won't boot up
im having the same problem, people say reset it and put it into recovery mode (it tells you in the quick start guide) or that didnt work for me so im trying charging it up fully. also mine makes a noise while trying to turn on, are you having this problem to?
I dropped the player and now the navigation
connect your player to your computer and start transefering all your important files there, then find a local electronics repair shop near you and let them have a check on your player.
I HAVE A ARCHOS AV
Hi there,
You can use a disc shaped connector hub for AV in/out connections, but no travel AV in/out. That is a separate accessory. So, if you want to see your video on a separate TV, bring the big hub, or spring for a separate set of travel connectors.
Thanks
This is about Archos AV500e.
Hi
This unit is particularly prone to freezing up.
There is a simple reset procedure which often works to unfreeze it. To do this simply press and hold the x button for at least 15 seconds to get it to reset itself.
Hope this helps - if so please rate my answer as ratings are important to the experts on this site.

Broken, Don't know what to do.
if it doesnt feel the same as the other buttons, ie you dont get a little click when you press it, then you can try this.
*nb* this involves butchering your device a bit, so if you arent sure you have the probelm i had, try something else.
on my av500, the cancel/off button stopped working, and stopped clicking...
i took the buttons off, the saw that beneath the plastic button is a bevelled springy plate, which had lost its springyness, and was constantly depressed/contacted
my solution was to poke a pin into the plate and pull it out, thus stopping the contact (which was causing weird problems).
i left the plastic buttons off, and now operate the buttons with a fingernail or pen. if the button stops working again, i lift it out again with a pin.
Format Hard Drive Error
If the unit detects any form of Hard Drive Error it asks you to format the drive.
Connect the unit to your PC and run ScanDisk or DOS Chkdsk on the drive. Will help to rectify any issues with the FAT.
Windows XP & 2000
Running Check Disk Utility (ChkDsk) ? HARD DRIVE mode only
If you still have problems with the file system on your AV 500 you can try to fix it using the DOS utility, check disk
(chkdsk).
Do the following;
? Make sure external AC adapter is powering the AV 500.
? Quit all running applications.
? Properly connect the AV 500 to your computer
? Wait patiently (up to 5 minutes) for Windows XP to show the local drive as mounted.
? Open a DOS window. Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
? At the prompt, type chkdsk e: /f . Use e: or f: or whatever drive letter is representing your AV 500. The /f
argument tells the program to automatically fix errors.
? Be patient, this may take a while.
? When finished, exit the DOS Window and properly disconnect the AV 500 from your computer.
Now try using the device. DO NOT try to defrag the drive.
Let us know how you get on.
