It's possible that the audio section is out but I'd check the cables and the signal first before I got too worried. Then I would check the tv setup to see where/how the input/output is configured. Those will cover about 99.99% of the audio problems you usually see ;-]

The cables could have a short or the connector at the end may be off. The easiest way to check these is substitution. Either hook up the cables to a different tv or hook up different cable to this tv and see if you get sound.

Check the setup menus to see if the audio is looking for a signal or putting out to the correct location.

If it is a actual hardware problem ( I don;t think it is) then you need to get a estimate from a repair shop or the Hitachi repair depot near you.The reason for a estimate is that the repair cost can cost as much as a replacement tv.

First check if the power cable of the television is firmly connected to the main socket, if otherwise open the back cover of the television to check for blown fuses, and otherwise .
well this is common on your model and could be a few different things. one is the video circuit and a cost would range around 100.00. the other is a weak picture tube this would cost more than the TV . sometimes when it is the tube we can adjust it but it does not always last long. sounds to me it would be better to invest into a newer TV in this case.
Hope this help....
good luck :)
let me know if you need more info??

You will need a new optic block assembley. This has been a common problem found in all brands of LCD projection type television sets.

Cause for this is fine dust and particles gets "cooked" onto special lenses and even on individual lcd panels. I haven't found a way to clean each optic peices back to original. I usually find the colored filters in most of them had changed to a brownish, hence blocking that color from getting through, leaving a pink, or bluish spot like hue, or even in some cases a starfeild like patern.

Only thing can be done is to search the Internet for a new or refurbished optic block assembly to your make and model.

In the shop I work for, I've seen literally hundreds of these sets, all brand who makes LCD projections, develop this kind of problem. I've exchanged optic blocks on everyone I've gotten since 2001 - 2002 and so far never seen one comming back with same problem twice.

If you are good with following instructions, then it maybe cheaper for you to purchase a service manual with all the parts blow up, access to "Service Man Mode" with all adjustment codes, then purchasing a new or rebuilt optic block assembly... (Some manufacturers will send you a different optic block assembly of wich you must enter the Service Man Mode (SSM), for making proper adjustments per advice from their techs).

Changing one can be a real chore, so it maybe in your favor to higher a competent tech who can do the job right at a good price. If you can't find a personal tech, then shop will be next in line, however it maybe a little expensive.

Sounds like your lamp is blown . Replacement part is UX21516 lamp. this is a common problem with my 50VG825 also, 3 lamps in less than 3 years. Try this if you have'nt already. Hope I helped

Ok, so it could be both then. Um if u open up the monitor, then u should see a small chip at the bottom of the lcd. This is called the Inverter. You might have to replace that. I would take it down to any local computer shop, they usually have tools to test it, and see if its broken. unles u just wana replace it, i think they average around 40$ u can simply unplug the old one, and plug a new one in, but it wont be 100% guarantied that. could be a bad installation of your new lamp aswel.

As this item is within the installation menu, you need a remote control.

First make sure that the current Source or Input is set to TV. This is usually the only reason for the error message you see. To select the source, look for a Source or Input button on the original remote. If you have an universal remote with a button with the Source/Input label, you may need to try alternative codes to make the button work. (Power and channel controls will often match across multiple codes for the TV manufacturer.) Alternatively, check if there is a Source/Input button on the TV or a section of the menu system with the function. Once you set this source, try again.

Note: there was a period when manufacturers sold some TVs without tuners. They were labeled HD-ready sets. These can't do a channel scan and do not have an RF antenna jack on the set.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model number of your Hitachi TV for more information on setting the source on your set.
