When you tighten the belt it is a problem if it isn't adjusted right. You need to loosen the belt again. When you are pushing on the foot control the motor will begin to run. The belt on my hemmer broke. I was able to find a vacuum cleaner belt the same size. Had to go to one of those local sew and vac shops and the guy measured it and found one for me. Only cost me a couple of bucks so I got a few of them.

if the machine has been sitting for awhile and you oiled it that willhelp, it could be the belt is too loose or the motor is going out or thefoot pedal needs to be checked to see if something is wrong with it.it would be a good idea to have the machine checked at a sewingmachine shop.

try adjusting the foot pedal, there are jam nuts under the foot pedalto make it go slower or faster.
