LG RT-42P245V-Band of pink
The PDP (plasma) panel has gone bad and need to be replaced. This is not a user serviceable part and cost about 1/3 of buying a new unit plus the cost of labor for a two-man job. I would hope that this unit was purchased less than 1 year as warranty for parts and labor is 1 year. If not I do hope you purchased an extended warranty or paid it with a MasterCard (some MC card provider extends the warranty by another year). Cost of repair for flat screen TVs are high so it really a wise investment to purchase extended warranty. Fixya offers extended warranty on your future electronics purchase. Hope this helps.

yes it can be down to signal degradation especially via scart lead, make sure you use a decent scart if you buy an expensive one you can tell the difference.
Run a cable from your sky digibox direct to your tv to see if the picture improves.
Funny noise on LG TV
This is a problem with alot of TV sets. Most of the time, women can hear this alot better then men because they have better hearing then men. There is what we call in the buisness, a "singing coil". The problem could be simply the coil is singing and will need to be replaced because the windings of wire that makes up the coil is not wrapped tight enough or this noise could be the sign of future problems to come as a bad switching power supply capacitor or a capacitor going bad. I am sorry to say there is not alot an end user can do except call out a tech to have a look. Good Luck
