DVD-R and DVD+R have a capacity of 4.5Gb

I would suggest you download a driver detective on your computer. Once you install this driver detective on your computer, it will help search for the correct driver for your Burner and it will automatically install it.
Connect the burner to your computer first, then install and run the driver detective.

My lg external drive wont open what to do?

Please try to use the EJECT button from the software, or from My Computer, right click over the driver, and choose EJECT.

You definitely should call LG--your new gaget isn't working, and it is under warranty. Or try going to their website to see if they have any software upgrades--sounds like you have a bummer, and perhaps a reinstall from their website will do the trick.
External Drive
sounds like you broke something internally, and it is shorting out when you turn it on. I would suggest properly disposing the drive and buying a new one, as external drives are not worth fixing, and if it has a burning smell it is most defiantly a fire hazard.
Drive won't open
u can see a pin hole on the drive just above the open button or the green light...press the button once n poke the hole with a pin ,,,,it ll hit a soft end...continue pressing it with some force....the tray will open...
