Howl canI transfer photos from Nikon coolpix P2 to my hp computer

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

My nikon coolpix p2 camera says this memory card

Have you formatted the memory card? When you buy a new memory card, you must go in your camera's menu and find the "format memory" selection and perform the format function. Once formatted by your camera, it should work.

I have a Nikon coolpix P2. I have a SD card in it

You should try some photo recovery software to rescue the pictures on your SD card, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

I need to transfer photos

Turn the computer on and wait for it to start up. After confirming that the camera
is off, connect the UC-E6 USB cable (provided with your camera) as shown below.
Check to be sure the connector is in the correct orientation and insert the
plug straight. Do not insert or disconnect it forcibly. Connect the camera directly
to the computer; do not connect the cable via a USB hub or keyboard.
Turn on your cameram,be sure to select Mass storage before reconnecting the camera.
Or you can transfer your photos using an card reader ...

Turn the dial on the top of your camera to Setup and a Setup menu will appear. Go down to Date and set the date and time. when your finished move the dial back to the normal (image of camera) setting.

From what you said - it sounds more like a sensor problem in the camera.
If the screen looks OK while sizing up a picture , then 'click' Image is stored on sensor which is read as one LARGE matrix of dots and stored into memory.
If the white lines start at this point - ie. viewing the picture while in camera and then after download.
Then, the problem started at the sensor.

I want to transfer pictures

You should be able to take the memory card out of the camera and insert it in the computer in a card reader slot. If your computer does not have these card slots you can get a card reader at a computer store and hook it up with a USB cord. try someone like radio shack to see if you can get a new cord for your camera, they have many different types and adapters to chose from.

Lens error message

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Lens error

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.
