Can my Olympus SP-700 take photos in black and

The SP-700 does not allow you to take photos in black&white. It will let you convert color photos to black&white, however. See the "Editing Still Photos (REDEYE FIX/BLACK&WHITE/SEPIA" section in the advanced manual (page 78 in my copy).

If you need a manual, you can get one from the manufacturer at

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Card error

If you get a message as "Memory Card Error" on your camera AND you still need some of the photos , the first step is to format the card through the camera menu (Note: if you have an sD card, once you re-format your card any photos cannot be recovered.). check your camera manual to see how to format your memory card. If this does not help, try another memory card (say the small 16/32mb card that came in the box with the camera). If this card does not display a "memory card error", then the other card is at fault.

To format* a memory card:
(*instructions on formatting memory cards can be found in your camera's user manual) you equally format the card using your computer if the above method fails,if the micro sd card is inserted into the sd slot of your system the computer sees it as a storage device in that way you can format it the usual way you can format a drive on your system but mind you if you have valuable pictures on it ,they will be lost but in that case you can use the low level format utility

Error message 5e02: 5f08

Error 5e02: 5f08 means lens error.

Try resetting the camera, by removing the batteries, and by holding down Ok/function button while you turn the camera on.

If the lens do not extract, try helping them out by gently slapping the back of the camera while you turn it on. If they do not retract, try helping the lens back in while turning off the camera.

If that does not help, then the camera need repair service.

I somehow managed to write

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Ok button - right arrow to Mode Menu - down arrow to Card tab - right arrow to card setup - right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.

you can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.

You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost or corrupted images.

Picture error

I would recheck all of my settings on the camera. Go to the menu and check everything one by one. Your card may be damaged also. Do you have another card to try? Do you have your manual? If not you can to to www.olympus.com to download a new manual specifically for your camera and it may address this issue. Good luck.

PHOTOS ON INTERNAL MEMORY - HOW DO I TRANSFER THEM TO CARD SO THAT I CAN GET THEM PRINTED AT SHOP?

Hi KarenB,
Not sure if anyone ever got back to you on this but i just had the same problem then googled it and found this
Yes, the [BACKUP] feature will transfer files from the camera's internal memory to an xD-Picture Card™ flash memory card. It does not delete those files from the internal memory. To perform a backup, insert an xD-Picture Card flash memory card into the camera and then turn the camera on. Press the [MENU] button. Press the Right arrow button to select the Setup icon, and then press the [OK] button to enter the Setup menu. Use the Up or Down arrow to select [BACKUP], and then press [OK].
