When I turn on my olympus sp-500uz it often goes straight to card setup when i turn it on. I often lose the pictures that I have on the card because I have no choice but "POWER OFF" or "FORMAT" and wh

I'm afraid you have a bad memory card. Would be better to buy a new one. see it as an extra. They are not that expensive today. And if your camera tells you to format, first switch off the camera. Then remove the card and try to read the pictures to your computer first. There are programs can recover pictures, your camera can't show. see these links if you don't already have recover software. www.cardrecovery.com www.wondershare.net with free trail www.cardrescue.com with free evaluation version Take care you never remove the card before switching off the camera complete and wait till no light is on or blinking. When you switch of the camera it could be it has to access the memory card, to write the last info it still had in its internal memory. they is when a light goes on or blinks. If you then remove the card or the battery, your file structure can be damaged very easy. Most camera's show a light when the camera is accessing the memory.

How do you restore bios

If your camera does act strange, it is just malfunctioning and you need to contact a service centre. If there was a bug in the software, all registered users would have had a mail, for a firmware upgrade. I'm afraid there is not such a thing as restore bios. The deepest restore, is reset settings in the camera to factory settings, but for that, your camera has to work normal. What settings you can set back and how, you can find in your manual.

I cannot connect Olympus SP500 via USB port to

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Camera wont turn on

1. Are you sure the battery is fully charged?
You can charge the battery by connecting the Olympus USB cable to the camera and computer.
Or using the delivered wall charger. When charging the orange LED on the camera should light.
When fully charged, the LED is off.
2. If this does not help you, check if your battery is well seated in the camera.
3. Check if the battery is faulty by replacing it by another one.

Camera (Olympus SP500-uz) turns on,

Make sure you have the switch turned to "take picture (camera)" instead of "reveiw photos (green triagle)". On this one, i think it is a wheel on the top of the camera.

Only thing I can think of...

Have had Olympus SP 500 UZ for several years but

Check your manual to make sure that a setting has not been over looked.
It seems as if the light meter has gone out. This will require contacting Olympus' Service and Repair.
You should also check that you are not covering a 'window' with a finger when taking shots- thus blocking the light thus making it read low light.
If all this is to no avail - check out the Olympus technical help team.

The program you're using to print the pictures should have an option to print the date either on the picture itself or in the margin (or maybe even on the back, depending on the printer). Check the documentation for the program.

Hello, My olympus sp-500uz has

Many people find it more convenient to just take the memory card out of the camera and put it in a card reader, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. That would be a "work around" for your problem.

As to the problem itself, a bad cable might be the cause, with damaged connectors. That is something you can replace cheaply (search Amazon on "Olympus SP-500 USB") so it won't be expensive to check it out.

Slow transfer might be due to using an older standard USB port. The first USBs were much slower than USB2 widely used now. Some older computers only have the earlier standard, and some have a mix of old and new.

I keep getting zoom error

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea
