Olympus SP-500 UZ Digital Camera Questions & Answers
How do you restore bios
If your camera does act strange, it is just malfunctioning and you need to contact a service centre.
If there was a bug in the software, all registered users would have had a mail, for a firmware upgrade. I'm afraid there is not such a thing as restore bios.
The deepest restore, is reset settings in the camera to factory settings, but for that, your camera has to work normal.
What settings you can set back and how, you can find in your manual.
Wet digital camera
I have had a camera do this before and I left it in a bowl rice for about a week. Then it turned right on. Since rice will absorb the moisture we cant find or see. But I would make sure to take it apart as much as possible. :) Hope that works. GL
I cannot connect Olympus SP500 via USB port to
Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa (
http://picasa.google.com ).
Camera wont turn on
1. Are you sure the battery is fully charged?
You can charge the battery by connecting the Olympus USB cable to the camera and computer.
Or using the delivered wall charger. When charging the orange LED on the camera should light.
When fully charged, the LED is off.
2. If this does not help you, check if your battery is well seated in the camera.
3. Check if the battery is faulty by replacing it by another one.

Make sure you have the switch turned to "take picture (camera)" instead of "reveiw photos (green triagle)". On this one, i think it is a wheel on the top of the camera.

The program you're using to print the pictures should have an option to print the date either on the picture itself or in the margin (or maybe even on the back, depending on the printer). Check the documentation for the program.
Hello, My olympus sp-500uz has
Many people find it more convenient to just take the memory card out of the camera and put it in a card reader, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. That would be a "work around" for your problem.
As to the problem itself, a bad cable might be the cause, with damaged connectors. That is something you can replace cheaply (search Amazon on "Olympus SP-500 USB") so it won't be expensive to check it out.
Slow transfer might be due to using an older standard USB port. The first USBs were much slower than USB2 widely used now. Some older computers only have the earlier standard, and some have a mix of old and new.
I keep getting zoom error
Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair
center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.
