Screen goes black after couple seconds on my Polaroid 42" LCD

I had a TLX-4240B 42" Polaroid LCD TV and the screen would go black after about 10 minutes. There was still sound. I removed the two covers exposing the circuit boards behind the TV. I powered up the TV and waited for the screen to go black (I was going to start trying to pinpoint where the issue was with my trusting meter) then noticed a red light would come on when the screen would go black. there were 4 mini switches right above the red light. I switched the one that said burn and the TV has been working great since. good luck and let me know!

Turn off writing on tv

If you're talking about the close captioning, there should be a place on your remote to turn it off. Hope this helps.

Where can you find the input button if you have no remote?

If there is no 'menu' button at the front control panel, you must have a remote control to select inputs.

I experience to repair that problem. The problem i can see is the power supply. The power supply have abnormal output voltage supply.I replace leak capacitor in the power supply, then it will oky.So i suggest to check the power supply and check if ther is a leak capacitor.A leak capacitor can identify through visual checking if you don't have capacitor tester. If you can see that the top of the capacitor is rounded shape and have some moise at the top compare to flated top shape of good capacitor.Try my sugestion andt procedure, hope will it help you.Thanks..

When I go to turn

You have a bad capacitor in the power supply. But I must say the quest for repairs do not stop here. You will need to also inspect the signal board. In the signal board (has all your RCA and RF connections) you will certainly find several bad capacitors. You will need an ESR meter and lots of patience and replacement capacitors to fix this TV. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

T V will not come

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors. Many electronics companies were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional

2. Open your TV and find PSB. Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

I have a tip/tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem.

Hope this helps and Good luck.

There's no sound

There's an SMD fusible resistor that is the size of the tip of a pencil located on the main board that prematurely opens.

I Think NO expert can help this problem because it free answer

I think I may finally have the answer for the "black screen of death" for the 42" Polaroid LCD televisions. I was having the same issue with the screen going black after a couple minutes of being on. I would shut it down then turn it back on and it would work again for 5-10 minutes. On the "power board" which is the board on top, there is a little red light that turns on when the screen would go black. above that there are 4 little switches, the lower on says BURN. I simply switched that over and the television has been working for 2 days for 8 hours + each day. Hope this help. Let me know
