"No Signal" when DVD player is hooked up via component video

If you are using the same cables, same input and the cable box works ok. I would look into the settings of the DVD player. Such as is it a progressive playback and is progressive turned on. It is not turned on by default because not all TV's could handle progressive in.

Picture is very dim, lettering

When troubleshooting these units, there are always several variables to consider. First check to see what last occurred with the unit such as did the children play video games, did the electricity go out due to bad weather. You may see that there are many possibilities but let's focus on what occurred last to the unit. Once we determine what happened last, we may isolate the actual cause of the problem. The actual cause may be associated with projection issues, older versions (Picture tube), interference from devices located nearby, and even a radio turned on and located really close to your unit. This is normally known as electromagnetic interference to electronics and is very common with the error you have provided today. Please continue to look for anything EXTERNAL to the unit before looking at the internal components. I have been working on these a long time so feel free to follow up with me.

My z50px2d plasma tv had

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors. Many electronics companies were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional

2. Open your TV and find PSB. Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

I have a tip/tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem.

Hope this helps and Good luck.

I have a Z50PX2D 50 in. HDTV Plasma Television I

Hi and welcome to fixya.

To answer part of your question;
Whitout having the complete story on your tv and what prompted you to replace the Ymain and drivers along with the Zsustain.
I would suggest that you look on the back panel, you will see a sticker with voltages written on it.
For a 50" plasma set it should be somewhere around 195 to 205 volts for the VS voltage.
There is a control in the power supply circuit to adjust that voltage that usually can be measured on one of the fuse of the Ysus or Zsus.
You can also vary that control slowly while you look at the screen and you will see a difference(sparkles) in the picture.

It might just be what is missing now to repair your set.
Good luck and don`t forget; this is a freebie so you can either say thank you for the advice but no thank you or just thank you :)

Z50PX2D - I did not have the typical "Popping"

I own the same set. I had the "pop" happen to me. I decided not to fix the set, but before trashing the TV I removed all the boards and parts that I could. This included the Power Supply Board and the Main Board along with the Y Sus, Z Sus, Y Buffers, Speakers, Cooling Fans and few other things I don't know the name of. I'll sell all these parts $150, cheaper than you will find the Power Supply Board by itself. With all these parts you can fix the set cheaply no matter what ends up being the problem. Let me know if you are interested.

Have to keep turning tv swith on and off before it

Just fixed mine, similar problem, it was the capacitors in the power board. The fix cost me a total of $21. $15 of that was for a soldering iron, and a de-soldering iron, the other $6 was for the new capacitors.
If you pull the back off look at the power board, take a look at all the capacitors, if any of them are bowed out in the back (should be flat) then they are blown. I had 7 blow. The new capacitors I got at a higher voltage, hoping to thwart the problem in the future.
Hope this helps!
